So what's that bit between Earl's Court and Aldgate East all about then?

(And the bit between Earl's Court and Edgware Road).

Might just be me being stupid, but I've always thought that sort of detracts from that experience - you get more time to appreciate how slowly you're going, as well as the fact that the trains aren't very nice.
It's London Underground for a reason, and most of the district is just a wannabe tube :P And you don't get the full underground experience...

The DLR goes to Lewisham. The question is, why?

I have to disagree.

For me, the best bits are the bits above ground. Only today I was up at Amersham on the tube and it's so much nicer going up there with something to look at.

I really dislike zone 1 sometimes.

Never been to Amersham, so can't comment on that, but I remember that the Richmond to Hammersmith journey is death, and Westminster to Wimbledon is similar. Suppose it could be passable with more hospitable trains, or it could be something to do with the fact that I always do them when its dark and miserable. London does a good line in rain as well, which you don't get on the deep level lines. Only problem with zone 1 is that its where everyone else either is or wants to be... so it's a little congested.

Hammersmith and City for me ; not too crowded, goes to some more interesting places, usually is a good connection for me on challenges, and distinctive messages from the driver every now and then.

As an aside here, you will notice that the Piccadilly line has now started introducing the autromated announcements and different dot matrix messages in the cars.

I use the Piccadilly line every weekend and it sounds weird to hear a voice announcing stations now ...

i second this, haven't been down to heathrow on a train with announcements yet but whats the betting they have them in several languages? or "alight here for british airways services, except blah blah blah blah, singapore airlines, BMI, etc etc"

Correct terminology used should have been "deep level"

When we did our 275 challenge last week that stupid woman on the Piccadilly made some stupid announcemant at Hatton Cross.
This was at 1 am and she said "This train is for terminals 1,2 & 3, Change here for trains to terminal 4". Not bad seeing as the last train to T4 was at 00:06 am !
One day I shall return!

If the announcement was at HT123, then I expect the announcement would have been for HEx and Heathrow Connect services to HT4. This would be on two accounts; a) you would change at Hatton X for Terminal 4, and b) I wouldnt be surprised if LU started using the T4 announcement after the last LU T4 train had left. If that makes sense.

That'll be the driver too lazy to turn it off after it became incorrect information.

Try reading the rest of the post...

EDIT: I realise the (b) point was unclear, I meant I think LU would use the HT4 trains announcement at HT123, after the last LU train had left HX, because they would advise you to use other rail services (Heathrow Express, Heathrow Connect, etc.)

I don't understand this love for the Metropolitan. The trains are quite slow and have you seen how incredibly dirty they get in the evenings? People also seem to talk a lot more on the met than on other lines.
I was thinking of voting for the Central by the way, the ATO, high frequency and good acceleration /braking does make it one of my favourites. It's just too bad that it has been letting us down the last week or so, but that apparently has to do with the new timetabling and upgrading the system for that?

My favourite tube line is the East London line because there is many bumps and strange noises so you never get bored
One has lost the game !!!!!
