Tube Challenge in aid of Asthma UK

I'm not sure exactly who was responsible for this (although I strongly suspect it was Antony, Kevin et al), but it seems like some of you had a bit of trouble doing the South London Challenge, and have inadvertently persuaded someone to try and raise £3,000 for Asthma UK. I just stumbled across his website while searching for "The Tube Challenge".

I was wondering if any of you knew about this, or if you have any stories of your own about times you have unexpectedly come across the Tube Challenge

I do believe you may be right. I searched these forums for "Asthma", assuming that they would have mentioned it if they had joined already, but apparently not.

Now I come to think of it, I think I overheard the phrase 'tube challenge' in the office last week before I went away - I guess I just assumed they were talking about the National Deaf Children's Society one that I posted here a few months back (which would have been quite unlikely really; no reason why anyone else in the office would have stumbled across the same 18-month-old page that I did) - and immediately dropped it from my mind. Now it all makes sense

Well spotted folks, yes it is myself and my friend Ric Mansworth who are doing the challenge for Asthma UK. We seem to have brought the challenge to the attention of a hundred new people, so who knows how many will themselves have a go in future. We are also just about to hit our target of £3,000 so we are really pleased. Thanks Antony for sponsoring us! It's amazing where a dropped travelcard can lead...

Now, a question about Oyster cards for you.. is the Journey History section of Oyster online submissable as evidence to Guinness?

I doubt it. I would advise you to use a paper ticket anyway though; read on...

Oyster PAYG journeys time out after two hours, and after that you'll need someone to open the ticket barrier for you, which will waste time. Oyster season tickets don't seem to suffer from this problem, but the 1-9 weekly season ticket is about £65. Paper tickets don't time out.

Of course, you could plan your journey so that you exit and re-enter the tube network every two hours, but I'd just pay the extra 50p and not have to worry about it
