Tube Challenge Unplanned II - Weds 24th October

Post by tpfkar »

Back by popular demand (i.e. Kevin asked for it - he counts as popular) I'd like to suggest another go at the Unplanned format that we used for the warm-up event for Tubefest 07 back in May.

For any new forumites or people with short memories, the idea is to visit 15 randomly selected stations in Zones 1 and 2 in the fastest time - but with a catch that only the starting station is revealed in advance: all other stations are only revealed when the timer starts.

It's been suggested to do this in half-term week as some of the youngsters would like to get humiliated for themselves, and who am I to stand in their way? ;)

I've checked my calendar and in fact I'm in London with work Tues-Weds-Thurs that week, so I'd like to propose going for Weds 24th Oct. I will use the program I wrote previously to generate the stations, and will likely announce the starting station on the Sunday evening. However there is a chance of this taking slightly longer than a Z1 challenge - although it could be much less if the stations chosen work well together unlike last time - so I'd like to go for a 6:45 meet-up at the chosen station.

Please post here if you are free and interested, also if the day after could work better for you as it could conceivably be changed to the Thursday if there is demand. Also if anyone has a sofa or spare room free for the Weds night so I don't have to slink back off to Milton Keynes after finishing, it would be gratefully welcomed.

I'm off to get busy not planning a route - hopefully see you on the 24th :)

Sounds good Ric.........

I also have something up my sleeve that could be done during the day and was thinking of either Tues 23rd - Weds 24th Oct.......

So this could possibly turn into a "mini" challenge day where anyone is welcome to particpate in either or both......... :D

Further details will follow in due course..........

I'm doing CSI in the evening of the Wednesday, but if you're planning something for another day then I might be around.

As I'm off to Germany for the weekend, and am in London from then until Weds, tomorrow is my last chance in the office to print out the station list.

As a result, I've just run my program and I am pleased to announce that...

Starting station is Holland Park

This is printed to screen, and is the only station which is...I have not seen any of the other stations in the list. I will have print-offs ready for Weds.
As it is just possible that it could take a while to get round (or equally could be a quick easy one) let's meet at 6:45 at the entrance to Holland Park station. (There's only one entrance, right?) Would be good to have a few more people taking part - if you're around, come and join us.

I'll likely only be back on the forum Tues evening, so please bear with me over the weekend.

Hope to see you Weds,
Ric

I'm suddenly scared :)
LOL be afraid, be very afraid

So what's the betting we all head eastbound?

There are only 3 stations on the central line heading westbound and no interchange until you get to Ealing Broadway, unless of course if you fancy "running" From Shepherds Bush to Shepherds Bush H & C, or possibilities of picking up Silverlink at Acton Central........

There you go Matt..... :)

On the contrary, Kevin, there are a couple of rather nice little things one can do by heading westbound!

I might be able to make it, Ric, but I'm not particularly confident. If I can make it, you could crash on my floor.

Yes.

Wahey, all that wandering around collecting GPS locations was useful for something!
