***UPDATE*** The first Z1/2 Challenge will take place on 8th November 2008 @ 11:00
Has anyone ever attempted a Zone 1 & 2 challenge. If so how long did it take. As far as I can see there are 74 stations in Z2 making the total 138 stations altogether, so approx half the network. Perhaps you could make 9th June a tribute to Shoreditch and do a Z1/2 challenge which either starts or finishes at Shoreditch?
Update: 10/JUL/06
The Z1/2 Challenge seemed to generate quite a bit of interest. If we can get enough people interested I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and fix a date when we could give it a go. As this would be the first Z1/2 Challenge it has been mentioned that we should set the starting station, East Putney was suggested. Any further ideas on the format would be appreciated.

This does sound like an interesting challenge, but I am guessing we would probably need to start around midday to make it in time for the Shoreditch tribute on 9th June....
I wouldn't mind giving this a go at some time, but 9th June is definitely out due work commitments
We could possibly see what the general interest is and make a date later in the year
Also any idea how you would just get a map for Z1/Z2 without using the whole network one ? Perhaps "copy/paste" would do it

I'd just use the highly technical method of using the "eraser" function in Windows Paint! That's how I did myself a Z1 map, and I'll probably knock up a Z1+2 one and chuck it up on t'interweb at some point....
Also, can someone confirm the status of Archway, North Acton and East Putney, as they're not quite bang on the border (as I see it) so I'm not sure if they're actually in zones 2 and 3, or purely in zone 3.

Yup, I had a feeling you might know this one. What about North Acton + East Putney? In fact, I'll stop being lazy and just look them up - they're bound to be listed on a pdf version of the tube map, or something.

I'll also tell you for free that the door position for running over to the southbound platform as you arrive on a northbound train, is 2/3.
Cheers! How is this running done? Via bridge, tunnel/underpass or delicately balanced plank of wood over the lines?
Zones 1 & 2 will take a lot, lot longer than just Zone 1. While the number of stations may be roughly double, within Zone 1 there are no real "edge" stations that don't have any connections - except Pimlico/Vauxhall. In Zone 2, you're going to have to double up dozens of stations - Willesden Green, Hampstead, Archway, Manor House, Bromley-By-Bow, New Cross, New Cross Gate, Brixton, Clapham South, East Putney, Turnham Green, North Acton, Kensal Green... and all the stations between those and the nearest connection. I have a feeling there would be a lot of National Rail/Bus connections involved. It would probably take 10 hours.
I was thinking more 6 to 8 when I first read the topic, but now also having seen Pete's superbly crafted map I reckon you are probably about right

Well, 8-10. Obviously with a larger area there'd be more variation between times, so 8 hours might be possible, in fact 10 is probably a conservative estimate. It's a Senjy time .

No! I think it's a great idea. We should meet at 1100, try to start by 1130, then make sure we're back to Shoreditch for 2030. Bonus points for anyone who manages to get Shoreditch to be their finishing station .
I'm up for it, I'd even be up for organising it except that I don't think I'm going to have internet access for the next week or two. Sorry.
I had not really worked out how long it would take but was guessing around 8 hours. Perhaps you could make it Z2 only which would reduce the time by a couple of hours
According to my tube map Archway, East Putney & North Acton are all in Z2. Pete's map includes the DLR but I guess this is not included as part of the challenge but could be used as a link. If you did all of Z2 you would have to include Earls Ct., Elephant & Castle, Notting Hill Gate & Vauxhall as they all straddle the Z1/2 border, which makes a total of 78 stations.
Having suggested this challenge I won't actually be able to make it due to work committments, however I could meet you all at Shoreditch to present the winners with a prize!!!
