Tube Motor Racing
The idea is to follow 8 laps of a certain "track section." There are 2 lanes - the inside lane and the outside lane. One must either start on the inside or outside. The inside is shorter but more changes are involved. And that's when pit stops come into play. One must wear both the "soft shoes" (running shoes) and the "hard shoes" (normal working shoes).
The race starts from Green Park (outside) or Piccadilly Circus (inside). The outside person takes the Jubilee Line to Stratford and then they change for a Central Line to Liverpool Street. S/he then takes the H&C/Circle/Met line to Baker Street then takes the Bakerloo Line to Piccadilly Circus. S/He is now about to start Lap 2 on the inside.
For the inside person, they take the Piccadilly Line to Leicester Square, then the Northern Line to Charing Cross. Change for the Bakerloo Line to Embankment. Then they take the District/Circle lines to Tower Hill. You MUST double back to Monument then change for the Central Line. Take that to Holborn, take the Piccadilly Line to Leicester Square, then the Northern Line to Tottenham Court Road. Central to Bond Street, change for the Jubilee Line and you are now on the outside.
PIT STOPS: Due to the rule of using both the softer and harder "tyres" then a team member must wait at the following stations:
If pitting from the Inside, they must wait at Goodge Street northbound.
If pitting from the outside, they must wait at Euston (Victoria Line) southbound.
PIT LANE:
INSIDE: When the person on the inside gets to Tottenham Court Road then they must change for the Northern Line, have a stop at Goodge Street (they must disembark) then up to Warren Street and take the Victoria Line to Green Park.
OUTSIDE: At King's Cross St. Pancras, they must get to Euston via the NORTHERN LINE ONLY. They must change to the Victoria Line platforms, change tyres then take the Victoria Line to OXFORD CIRCUS. Now they are on the inside.
GROUP EXTRA RULES:
An independent witness will be present so as to prevent breaches of the 2011 FIA Formula One Sporting regulations (with the context changed a bit).
There will be NO bumping.
NO deliberate crowding over a challenger.
NO weaving/blocking.
Any violations will result in a drive-through penalty or a stop-go (person will be forced to be taken off their train and wait for the next one on the long haul (District/Jubilee).
I'd certainly be up for it.

I'm sorry, do the strange goings-on in the first post represent somd new kind of real-life challenge?

The inside lane must be a good 20 minutes quicker than the outside lane. If you really wanted to do a race it would be better for both people to do the same circuit, but in opposite directions.

Spoil-sport. I think that it looks quite amusing. Not a serious challenge, but along the lines of the Park Challenge, it's a why-not-it-could-be-a-good-laugh kind of thing.Steeevooo wrote:This is potentially one of the worst ideas that I've seen on here to be honest.

If I've read it correctly, the idea is for each competitor to complete laps on both circuits (three on inner, two on outer), so it all evens up in the end.greatkingrat wrote:The inside lane must be a good 20 minutes quicker than the outside lane. All seems overly-complicated and contrived to me, though.

Well this challenge is more strategical more than anything else which plays into the hands of the real tube challenger (the one that spends months scheduling (e.g. Marc Gawley)) rather than the ones who don't schedule and find that they're at Upminster when T4 closes with a T5 finish.RichieG wrote:Fourthed.

Well, sort of, but the idea is that it all revolves around the "pit stop strategies".Cheshire Cat wrote:If I've read it correctly, the idea is for each competitor to complete laps on both circuits (three on inner, two on outer), so it all evens up in the end.

Eh? I would say that everyone plans their route methodically and put hours of preparation into it!Well this challenge is more strategical more than anything else which plays into the hands of the real tube challenger (the one that spends months scheduling (e.g. Marc Gawley)) rather than the ones who don't schedule and find that they're at Upminster when T4 closes with a T5 finish.

Re: Tube Motor Racing
If you made it 4 laps doing 2 laps of each circuit then it would make a lot more sense.......

6 or 8 laps, I reckon, as I want more pit flexibility.Going Underground wrote:If you made it 4 laps doing 2 laps of each circuit then it would make a lot more sense.......
Chicanes? I've dreamt up some for the inside to reduce the deficit.
