I'm quite a fan of the top five rounds contributing points only, as it negates the possibility that only a select few can win the title going into the final round. Obviously as the number of rounds in a championship increases, so does the likelihood that it will all be decided before the last round. This is a benefit that I'm not aware of having been highlighted before this point, unlike the much discussed possibility of opening up the championship title to those who can not make all rounds. It should also be remembered that this system is not a discouragement to those who can make all 6 rounds, unless you have been fortunate enough to win the first 5, because otherwise you can always go for one more win to your tally!

Exactly, that's what I was thinking of. So being the BERC that I am, I think we will go with this as it makes it much fairer for those that can't make every single round. So in Summary....
1. The R15 will consist of 6 rounds
2. Your top 5 scores will count towards your final points tally.
3. Each player will get one Joker to play during the champioship, Jokers are played when handing in your time to the BERC, so therefore no discussion should take place with others at the pub before deciding whether to play your joker or not. (The BERC will have to decide if playing his Joker before any other times are submitted).
4. If competing as a team not all team members have to play their joker in the same round, therefore if you are on the winning team and play your joker you score 20 points, whereas a fellow team member not playing the joker will only get 10 points.
5. Under the new scoring system the maximum points available is 60.

Sounds good BERC. Although can I just clarify that the final double-points round around the time of Z1CC will no longer be double-points, unless you leave your joker unplayed until then.

I can live with these new rules, but i'm not overly keen on the joker thing. It adds another element to the competition that doesn't really have an awful lot to do with tube challenging.

Prezackerly. You've hit the nail on the head, the final round will be normal scoring unless you still have your joker to play.

Are we still doing the scoring based on the number of people that turn up or has that been scrapped in favour of this new system?

How about a round that includes stations in Z3 This could throw up some interesting scenarios.......

The BERC rules: this year the point scoring will be 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, regardless of the number of teams entering each event.

The BERC rules: undecided, we can put this to the vote but I think this could make the challenge very long depending on which stations come out of the hat.

Average time for R15 in Zone 1-2 is 2:53 while for Zone 1-3 it would be 3:46. Worst case scenario (95%) is 3:36 for Z12 and 4:44 for Z123.

I think those stats are slightly over optimistic. If we take the list of times on Matt's site, the average R15 time is 3:28:06, in fact out of 52 separate times, only twice has there ever been a time 2:53 or lower. There is basically a difference between Hakan's average and the actual average of 35 minutes and 6 seconds.

I'm sure someone can work out the math in what that percentage increase would mean for the Z123 average time worked out by Hakan, but calculating percentages using hours, minutes and seconds has confused the hell out of my brain.

EDIT: Wolfram Alpha works it out as being an average time of 4 hours 31 minutes and 52 seconds taking into account a percentage increase of 20.29%.

I think these times would be based on weekday services. As most of the attempts are done at weekends the actual times would be slower due to engineering works and reduced frequencies.

I quite like a round with Z3 in, of course there is no guarantee that any will come out and I think there are 45 in total?
It could bring The Goblin, NR Richmond & Wimbledon and the likes of North Ealing West Acton into play... I don't think it would be too drastic time wise, possibly an hour ish ....
