Re: Olympia Shuttle
I really don't get the point of declaring 'retirement', if you claim it and don't ever do it again you gain nothing, if you claim it and do end up doing another one then you look stupid.

Let's go through that.tractakid wrote:I really don't get the point of declaring 'retirement', if you claim it and don't ever do it again you gain nothing, if you claim it and do end up doing another one then you look stupid.
I claimed it, and have gained nothing since. But I didn't need to "gain" anything, as I gained the world record in 2004, and held it for two years. That was enough for me. However, if I now decide to come back and have another go, will I really look stupid? I look stupid anyway, so nothing lost.
"If" is a big word.

I retired for a while, I came back, I got the world record again, wouldn't class that as stupid...tractakid wrote:I really don't get the point of declaring 'retirement', if you claim it and don't ever do it again you gain nothing, if you claim it and do end up doing another one then you look stupid.

Re: Olympia Shuttle
It isn't the 'coming back' that is stupid- I think it's great when someone attempts again after a long off period. It was saying you were retired in the first place- its silly to say it. Retirement isn't temporary, so to be correct by saying it- it has to be a commitment. Retirement is only proved correct once you're dead. By saying it, all you create is an opportunity to prove yourself wrong.
The only situation where I can see it being worth it, is if you gain a physical disability or become physically unable to get round the full network in 20 hours.

Re: Olympia Shuttle
Or maybe at the time I retired, I had NO intention of doing the challenge again, its only because of scrxisi and his interest in challenging that I chose to do more attempts.
You're entitled to think what you want though.

People retire from all sorts of things, like their jobs. Are you saying they're all silly too?tractakid wrote:It was saying you were retired in the first place- its silly to say it. Re: Olympia Shuttle
In regards to this if people are so sure that GUINNESS dont check their records thoroughly then somebody should run into the station and depart from an overground train to West Brompton then continue tube to Wimbledon.

Re: Olympia Shuttle
So would that be classified as "cheating"?

Re: Olympia Shuttle
Ah yes. Of course. There's much to discuss on the matter presently.hopeful traveller wrote:Olympia shuttle, in case you've forgotten...
1) The recent floods catastrophically destroying the ticket barriers at Olympia
2) The horrendous overcrowding on the district line platform due to the recently realised 'free service'
3) The surprising use of the 2009 stock for the 05:50 service, direct to Roding Valley via Woodford
4) The use of pogo sticks to replace the taxis to get the drivers to the depot
5) the extension of the Olympia branch to the busy interchange station Goldhawk Road
What does everyone make of the above on topic issues?

The prize is a lawsuit from LU for re-producing their map without permission.
