But the bad news is that as soon as Cannon Street opens on Saturdays, then Queensway closes and the Zone 1 record time will beocme harder to beat. Unless, that is, you use a certain route...

Changing the subject slightly, but this something I want to clarify...
...I assume that we don't have to take the first train in the direction we are travelling from the starting station, and that we only start the clock on the particular train we have elected to start with? For example if we wanted a District from St James Park, and the first train was a Circle, then we could take the District, and only start the clock when it departs.

From what has been discussed recently - then you have to take the first train on the line of your choice. In other words if you are at St. James Park and the trains due are District, District and then Circle - you can take the first District (train 1) or the first circle (train 3) but not wait until the second district line train (train 2)

Exactly my conclusion. Geoff describes this fairly well on his site:moley wrote:From what has been discussed recently - then you have to take the first train on the line of your choice. Unfortunatly, he has not yet updated it regarding the Queensway ruling but it's quite clear from the discussion under another topic on this forum:

considering a 'pass through' you HAVE to do it, but you just can't finish there. attempts will be void if it's the last station! if you do do this your timing point will instead be either Notting HIll or Lancaster Gate.
i'll update this on MY site tonight. don't hold your breath for tubeguru though!!
Yes, Queensway is not going to be a starting or finishing station. Just pass through it was if it wasn't there.
And that's final.

Tubeguru is notoriously bad at updating the site. He's as proficient as procrastinator as me!

You've updated the site about once in 2 months. There has been a LOT of activity ([not least regarding Zone 1 attempts, in which field TWO records have been attained without so much as a whisper from the assumed Official Tube Challenge Website {for there is no other dedicated site that can call itself official so this is the one by default. It does, after all, have the relevant domain}.]. I love brackets).
"Whatever" is a BAD WORD, to which I can only possibly reply...
"INSUBSTANTIAL!!!"

Right, OK.
Over the past few weeks I have been quite busy travelling all over the country, leading a real life away from the the tube. As a result, I haven't had as much time as I would like to update the site.
At the same time, just about every man and his dog has been attempting mini-records on the tube just about every day and it's quite hard to keep up when you don't have the ability to read the site every day.
I'm currrently torn as to whether I should include these "unofficial" zone 1 challenges as I've always seen it as being an "official" organised thing - anyone can do Zone 1 and as Geoff and Neil have pointed out - real men do all 275 (or something).
For the sake of completeness maybe I should but then I think that maybe you can go too far and have a challenge for just about everything - didn't someone a while back suggest a challenge to run down every interconnecting passageway on the tube?! Suffice it so say, I won't be including that on this site outside the forum.
Also Anthony, I really do suggest that you take a little break from the tube until the Zone 1 Challenge - you've become obsessed to the point where you are now dictating to me how I update MY website. I have no obligation to satisfy your little whimsies; most of the time I update things as requested by people who ask me nicely and not by those who TELL me to.
The main focus of this site should, to my mind, remain the full 275/274/however many stations challenge and the attempts people make on it.
The Zone 1 challenge is now becoming a little devalued due to the number of people doing it on their own and that is another reason why I am loathe to include EVERY effort someone makes on it. I'd rather concentrate on an organised get-together on Zone 1 to be honest.
Everyone is quite welcome to post their Zone 1 efforts to the forum here (I'd suggest a new topic for each one). The forum is set to delete old posts after 365 days on the forum so that should give everyone plenty of time to read them.
I hope this is substantial enogh reply for you

All right, then!
Could you just ask someone else to update the site? Such as... Geoff?
Comrades of the Tube, unite. I will not stand for this oppression, and neither will you! Every Tube Challenger is equal. I shall not allow some to be more equal than others! Make your stand!
I *have* been taking "a little break from the Tube"! Before this brief hiatus began, you may recall, I attempted the World Record, the All 275. I got over 200 stations in before abandoning thanks to a suspended service. I emailed you about this! Maybe the email was somehow lost in the aether. What acknowledgement of this attempt?
What, also, of the lists of fastest times on the main Alternative Challenges (of which there are not many), and the lack of a similar list of fastest Zone 1 times? Are some alternative challenges, also, more, equal than others? I'm not asking for detailed information on everyone's attempts, just a list of the fastest times.
Anyone can do Zone 1, indeed, just as anyone can do the Circle Line Bottle and the All Lines challenges, which have their very own pages and scoreboards.
At the very least, update the Zone 1 2005 page to include the Queensway ruling.

As a relative newbie, I mainly did the Zone 1 Challenge to get a feel for tube-racing, and to see if I'd be interested in doing the whole thing. As a result I had a go at the real man's challenge last week. I agree that the site should be focussed around the 275 challenge, but wouldn't it be possible to suggest the Zone 1 Challenge as a way for new people to find out what was involved?

i disagree with anthony on this -- if tubeguru cannot be bothered to update his website, or decides that he does not want the information on HIS website he doesn't need to.
i have a website (which is nothing to do with the tube, its about football) which was about a non-league football club called VS Rugby, the official website was very rarely updated and the fans considered mine to be the main website, even though it was unofficial.
sometimes i felt under pressure to update it and normally i did not mind the content being uploaded onto my website but sometimes to fit in with my school work it was a difficult task to update whenever the was something to be updated although i tried to update it when needed. I find it silly to complain at tubeguru because having a website is a privilege (spelling?) not a right and if you don't like it don't look at it.
