Re: Olympia Shuttle
I think you'll find that Guinness set a target time when they reset the record, such that a new record will only be recognised if it's within that time.RichieG wrote:
Being 'reset' doesn't mean that they change the time - it means that on one day, the record is 17:12.43 for 269 stations, the next day it's 270 stations and the first person to do the complete network (even if they take four weeks) is the record holder. I see Guinness' point here though, and my personal thought is that although they probably should have reset the record when Wood Lane opened, it is an intermediate station on a line, so can see why they didn't, and it doesn't really matter now as another 45 minutes has been cut from the record anyway.
I think the next reset are both in hypothetical situations... one should the Croxley link happen, the other should TfL stop underground services to Olympia (or there's another change that TfL have lined up for the Underground).

Re: Olympia Shuttle
I've known about the Triangle Sidings/Lillie Bridge stuff for a while now (I live next door to Lillie Bridge). I'd also read that they may not bother actually taking the trains all the way into the platform at Olympia to do the reverse out of the depot, and just use the shunt?

Re: Olympia Shuttle
The December timetable is now in the Journey Planner
0550 Kensington (Olympia) - Edgware Road
0606 Kensington (Olympia) - High Street Kensington
0615 Kensington (Olympia) - High Street Kensington
0624 Kensington (Olympia) - High Street Kensington
0632 Kensington (Olympia) - Edgware Road
1958 Kensington (Olympia) - High Street Kensington
2038 Kensington (Olympia) - High Street Kensington
1941 High Street Kensington - Kensington (Olympia) arr 1948
2021 High Street Kensington - Kensington (Olympia) arr 2028
A pretty frequent service if you happen to be in Olympia at 6 o'clock in the morning
I guess that potentially you could try and connect up one of the evening trains with a Heathrow finish.

Re: Olympia Shuttle
O_o Wow, that really sucks. Timetabling this in must surely add time to the record? This doesnt just make the record harder, this will make a simple 270/270 harder. Which I'm hoping to do at some point.

Or wait for one of the exhibitions deemed important enough to warrant a weekday service, although it is not clear whether this will be two days a year, or 20 days a year.

Also, how far in advance would the exhibition service be announced?

Re: Olympia Shuttle
I've not looked at timetables at all, but could a Clapham North start be at all logical? Down to Morden, over to Wimbledon and up to Earls Court, to run to Olympia and get a train? Perhaps i'm talking nonsense, but something similar?
Start somewhere that's not Olympia just to get there in time?
*edit, I see that the first train into Clapham North is far too late. Wimbledon start perhaps?

Re: Olympia Shuttle
Geoff, I can't see the record being reset - no stations are actually being added or deleted here. However great the timetable change is, it's still just that - a timetable change.
Re: Olympia Shuttle
as i stated before geoff when u had the record t4 had to be visited by bus added lots of time did u complain then?***** wrote:Well that's no fun. You can't start at Heathrow and do Richmond and get over to West Ken -> Olympia in time.
So yes, the only two options is to go about your business all day, and time it to catch one of the evening services - which means if you're behind/late then you're fcuked.
Either that, or start at Olympia - not as stupid as it sounds, but I bet you won't be getting a sixteen-and-a-half hour (or thereabouts) time with that.
Which means writing to Guinness and asking if they consider this a dramatic enough change to warrant a map/record reset. And everyone goes fresh on Monday Dec 12th. Anyone?Well, either that - or ask if we can do it on a Saturday now instead, when (i haven't checked) the Olympia service runs all day?

Re: Olympia Shuttle
Agreed. If the record is reset (seems reasonable that it should be), the best times would be extremely rare due to the lack of breathing space for the evening connections. If you wanted to guarantee Olympia and therefore a completion by doing it in the morning, where would the most efficient start be?
If Guinness do not reset, why not create a new on-site leaderboard until the Guinness record becomes obtainable again?

Apologies if this is a stupid newbie rule failing question, but.........
Does getting an overground from West Brompton up to Olympia before running off in whatever direction suits count?

Re: Olympia Shuttle
No, as the Overground does not use the same track or platforms at the station. Other services can only be used where the tracks are shared.
