There will be some scheduled Mon-Fri trains to/from Olympia, early morning starts and two or three in the evening peak. Most of these will be departures FROM Olympia with only two scheduled arrivals.

Its the old Shoreditch debate again but a different place ask Guinness if they agree the record should be changed then a lot of attempts will probably happen that day.If not then tube Challengers will have to start their route planning with Ken Olly a forethought in their mind it make it harder but then its a challenge after all.

No way, they'll never remove Olympia! It'll still be a Tube station, albeit with a toilet service.

They'll say that you have to visit the station when it's open. I.e. Event days only...

but someone should write to them officially, and ask if attempts can now be made at a weekend (i.e. Saturday) otherwise it's restricted to event days only. well, either that or perhaps a Heathrow start to somehow get it in in the morning. hang on, is Cannon Street still open on a Saturday now? if not, then it can't.

what would be really interesting is if Guinness saw this a significant network/map change, and 'reset' the record. they probably won't though - if they wouldn't even consider a new station (Wood Lane) a reset [ridiculous] then a station becoming limited opening probably won't.

Acording to TfL, Cannon Street is closed at weekends until 'mid 2012'. I'm not sure that helps much, since finding a Saturday without significant closures will be rarer than the weekday special exhibition services serving Olympia. I guess we will just have to revert to the situation as it was about 20 years ago (?) and rely on days when special exhibition services are running for challenge attempts.

I'm not sure that I agree that opening Wood Lane should have reset the record. One new station on an existing line adds hardly any time, while the possibility of a new interchange with the Central may offer a chance for a new route that reduces the time.

I agree it would be helpful to approach GWR and get a definitive ruling, but I don't hold high hopes of getting a logical response from them.

When Shoreditch was open, it was peak hours only and you just had to work around it.

Olympia will be the same as the racecourse station on the New York subway, will have to make an attempt on event days only

Wood Lane DID make a siginfinant difference to a route that we had at the time that was inside the existing GWR. having that additional stop put us back by 10 minutes overall...

Doesn't Olympia have stuff on regularly enough for full network attempts to not be too seriously affected?

When I lived in Hammersmith, I was always going past Olympia, and the posters always had stuff advertised months in advance.

There will only be an Olympia service during "major" events. The report doesn't define what a major event is, but it doesn't sound like they will happen very often.

Even when there is a service, it will only start at 1000 and run every 30 minutes. I predict that the special services will be poorly advertised so they have an excuse to shut it completely in a years time due to lack of usage.
