***** wrote:Ok! I've now seen the daily service reports for this day - 21st April, and I can tell you that:

Eight of the eleven lines had 100% good service all day. Quite amazing in itself.

The only two main incidents were a failed Northern line train at Finchley Central coming south at 4pm and another defective train - this time on the Jubilee - at about 5.45pm heading east. But even then, these hold ups were quite quickly cleared.

There were no SPADS or one-unders or signal failures, all of which I have encountered on my last four attempts. Bloody typical. Luck of the draw on the day as to what goes wrong? Seems like it ...

ps. What's more "amusing" is looking at the mess that is the service reporting detailing how horrendous the the District line was last Friday for Sam & Matt when they got caught up in it ...
Geoff, just wondering where you find these daily service reports? Are they in the public domain, or is it just something that you have access to? I think it could make quite interesting reading!

Cheers :)

That old chestnut again, eh? I thought we went over that before, when you made a list of everything you don't like about the forum and then left. My attitude was, and is, some of those things aren't my cup of tea but each to their own.

I said "funny" because it's almost as though everyone simultaneously remembered what this forum is meant to be about. I think the lack of world record-related chat recently has been because people have considered the record to be extremely difficult to beat, and as it's just got even more difficult, we could be back to business as usual soon enough.

If all the posts complaining about the lack of world record-related chat were actually about the world record, there'd be nothing to complain about. However, I think there are only so many things that can be said about the full network challenge. I don't see the point myself in making wild guesses about where he started and finished, or whether he had support. You can ask him that if you want to know. But you wondered whether he was alone: seeing as it is only his name on the record, I think we can assume he was.

Nothing to do with woodwork, Geoff, nice to have you back.

I've always felt that there's nothing wrong with a bit of gasbagging about everyday stuff on here. You know, alternative challenges, what you're having for dinner, and so on. After all, forum members tend to become friends after a while, and friends want to talk about more than just the World Record. People here find that others think alike, and also enjoy challenges, both big and small, as well as perhaps pub-quizzes and darts.

On the other hand, it's good to talk about the Record too.

I agree, I personal think I have no chance of beating the record. But I stick around because of the alternative challenges, the great people, the social life, quizzes etc.

Also, I man can dream about a perfect run.

I assume you are referring to this guy? http://www.thetubechallenge.com/home

He appears to be "Marc J" rather than "Marc Gawley" so I am not sure if it is the same person or not.

You don't want to know where he started? or finished! I do. Everyone is assuming that it's probably a Heathrow finish with a 10 minute service pattern, but just supposing it was something else or he'd done something unique which no one else had done on a world-record challenge, I think I would find that *very* interesting! Dig, probe, discuss, share - do all the good stuff a forum can be used for.
In my view it would be nice if Marc could provide a bit of information, but obviously its his perogative if he doesn't wish to. So I've been speculating .... On his website for his trial run he says he started at Chesham. Assuming he used the same start on 21 April, that would have to be the 6:50 departure. That means his finish would be 23:19. If it were Heathrow Terminal 5, I've just realised that my attempt that day finished on the train ahead, as I got to T5 at 23:09. Now, I'm trying to remember how long I spent at T5 and whether I saw the next train come in. I waited quite a long time for a train to take me back, and when it did arrive it sat around for about 5 minutes in the platform before leaving ... so I think I must have been at T5 very close to 23:19. I certainly saw nobody else that evening at T5 who looked like they had just finished a challenge ...

The picture on the tubechallenge site is of the same person as Marc Gawley's Facebook page. But, if you click through to the justgiving page and then click through to the justgiving site pageowner it then refers to a Marc Delaney. Umm???

Since I made this comment last night, the link to the justgiving page has been deleted and the justgiving account has been closed.
