thick as usual i was thinking i could get from imperial wharf then start the watch at clapham junction going to balham now i cant do that.its in the rules i have to go straight back to imperial wharf what a shite station that is

Andi you can do that if you like but you must start your watch at Imperial Wharf and then visit Clapham Jct and continue to Balham if you desire. The standard rules for any challenge say that you can't start your watch on an arriving train, it has to be the first one you depart on, so in this case it would be Imperial Wharf. Hope thats clear!

If, for example, I was to arrive at Paddington after a trip up from Devon, and catch a Wimbleware train from there, and the train was due to arrive at Putney Bridge between 12 and 12.15, could I stay on the same train but start the clock as if I started at Putney Bridge (ie, when the doors close at Putney Bridge).

That was probably a bad example given the frequency differences between LU and 'heavy' trains... how about boarding a train at Willesden Junction heading towards Richmond or Clapham Jcn, and starting the clock when the doors close at Gunnersbury or Imperial Wharf if said train is at one of those stations between 12 and 12.15, or would one have to jump off and back on the train?

I'm pretty sure the TOSA's answer to this will be that this is fine. There's no necessity to step off or on trains at the beginning of an alternative challenge. You start your watch when the doors shut at the first necessary station (or the one before if in this case you are changing at the first 'required' station), and the watch stops when the doors open at the final required stop (or if you arrived at the final station by a method other than the one required, when the doors open at the next stop along the line)

Maybe the starting period should be extended to 1200-1230? I think it would be a shame to rule out an Imperial Wharf start just because of the way the timetable falls.

If anyone is doing the tramlink section of the route in one go - it would be nice if they could note the time on the watch at departure from their first tram stop and arrival at their last - that way we might get a few more tram challenge times on the board as a subset of the total SLAM time.

Just to warn you guys, I have my eye on the tramlink record and as I cannot make the SLAM challenge, this may take place quite soon and when Sam sets her heart on something, Sam gets it

Update V2.01 SLAM rulings from everyones favourite TOSA are as follows:

1. Clapham Junction, can be visited by either LO or Southern (on West London line only).
1a. Clapham Jct must be visited by travelling to or from Imperial Wharf (or West Brompton, Ken Oly etc...)
2. ELL is 100% out, lets not try to make the challenge any longer than it needs to be.
3. Starting station, you can start at whichever station you like, but this must be in the window of 12:00 to 12:30.
4. If you decide to start in a station outside the SLAM zone you must start you watch at your starting station and also comply with rule 3. (No Richie, you don't have to step off the train, just start your watch when the train doors close)
5. Tramlink, the tram does not have to stop at each stop, a "Pass Through" would be accepted.
6. Meeting afterwards will be at the Horse & Groom, Great Portland Street
7. Southfields station must be visited by PASS THROUGH
