Well that's put a crimp on an otherwise damn fine plan...

(I hate to say this in the fear that people will actually start using it but Webmaster Actually Not King Ever Really - put the word 'Olympic' in front of that and would that be it?)

This happens so infrequently (never to me), that it probably won't matter anyway.

That makes it easier for the TOSA then!

Erm...
OK...
How about you make it your finishing station and arrive there on foot? You would have to leave it by Tube, so you would probably have to finish the timer when the doors close, thereby still arriving/departing at a station served by a SLAM line, yet not crossing the river :)
It's all academic anyway as you can cross the river :)
(I would assume you could start by starting at Imperial Wharf and start the timer as soon as your train is across the river, thereby getting Clapham Jct in...)
You're making it tricky for us, we're not even allowed to use the bus! We have to walk from Greenwich, or get the train to Westcombe Park and walk from there! Thanks! As for Clapham Junction and Woolwich Arsenal I was hoping that with your fictional rules we'd be able to use non SLAM transport. But no, it would seem not.

*Tuts*

In light of all this why don't we call you A COW?
That's (Almost) Cornish Olympic Webmaster?

Matt, everything you say makes perfect sense to me, as ever. As for the request stop issue, does the precedent not lie with the tramlink challenge where passes through stations are permitted? I thought it was, it most certainly is for the Sheffield Supertram record. If there is a Guinness precedent at all though it would be Blackfriars would it not? You can pass through there (currently) yet the would be record would stand.

SLAM rulings from everyones favourite TOSA are as follows:

1. Clapham Junction, can be visited by either LO or Southern (on West London line only).
2. ELL is 100% out, lets not try to make the challenge any longer than it needs to be.
3. Starting station, you can start at whichever station you like, but this must be in the window of 12:00 to 12:15.
4. If you decide to start in a station outside the SLAM zone you must start you watch at your starting station and also comply with rule 3.
5. Tramlink, the tram does not have to stop at each stop, a "Pass Through" would be accepted.
6. Meeting afterwards will be at the Horse & Groom, Great Portland Street

Anything else that I've missed?

I'd assume it has to be a Southern heading up the West London Line, I can't count Clapham from Sutton ;)

With the SLAM, roughly how long do you think it will take? Because I was thinking of attempting it, but would have to get a train home at 19.24 from Marylebone station. Do you think I would be able to make it?

Surely if you visited North Greenwich last after arriving on foot, you'd not be allowed to stop your watch until the doors opened at the next station (on the other side of the river).

Well, until class 378s start running on the ELL in a couple of months time, there is no effective ELL south of the river as the designated replacement bus- route ELC- has been withdrawn (and has been for a few months now). The ELW on the north side continues (though mostly carries fresh air)!

So will this be the one and only SLAM pre Overground ELL?

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

I suppose that with regards to the Tramlink question, the fact that the Tram would stop at any station if requested should be enough. In fact, I'd suggest this for the National Rail Full Network thing as well, regarding those request stops in Devon.

ELL definitely will NOT have 378s on it before this challenge takes place.

Just noticed for the SLAM that Great Portland Street station is closed on 13th February! This will make it difficult to get to the pub afterwards.

The pub is about halfway between Great Portland St and Oxford Circus. As we will be coming from the South it will probably be easier to use Oxford Circus anyway.
