Re: OYSTERCARDS - THE ONLY THREAD!
I have a 16-25 thing, and I have successfully linked it to my Oystercard - so mine tops out at £4.50. And I am not at a London university.

Re: OYSTERCARDS - THE ONLY THREAD!
Ah right, so instead of using my NUS card I can use my 16-25 rail card. Fair enough, I will now investigate further.
Thank you both for your replies!

You don't even need to be at any university to have a 16-25 card

True, but you need to be at University to get one for free, like I have.

I had no idea that you could get one free! I would ask how you managed to wangle it free, but it's a bit late for me...

Yep, NatWest do it each year, but only for accounts opened by 10th Oct.
I now have 2, one paid for one, one free.
Of course, only one can be linked to my Oyster at a time.
There are 18+ student photocards for London Uni students, but they only give discounts on longer travelcards.
I didn't realise the cap was £4.50, I hit it on saturday for the first time, I think that you no longer have to hit the full cap before you get the reduction...

18+ Oyster cards give you discounts on Weeklys or longer which is much better value than capping out each day....

Avoid pay as you go oyster on full networks at all costs!!
Sometimes journeys made on my network time out... which is just crazy let alone trying to do a full network on one.

OK So I want to get an Oyster card so I just pay £1.00 for a bus journey instead of £2.00.. So I just go to Hatton Cross and ask for a pay as you go Oyster which should cost me £3.00

Even just asking to buy an oystercard would get you the same thing.

Re: OYSTERCARDS - THE ONLY THREAD!
I disagree with you Sam, I have done all my Tube Challenges (including full networks) with my trusty Oyster card I believe it is ideal for Tube Challenges..well it is a Z1-9 Freedom Pass! In addition you can get a printout of the journey log as a bit more evidence to GWR.Sam wrote:...which is just crazy let alone trying to do a full network on one.
This facility did come in very useful during a Z1 starting at Notting Hill Gate, in which I made a bit of a cock up on, not realising I didn't visit Earl's Court during my route, but did sign out there, thus got a printout of my journey log as evidence foir the challenge time!
