Rather than collecting cash a better idea is to hand out flyers with links to our donation websites.... :)

I think most people find the idea of people shaking buckets of cash distasteful, even when the cause is a good one. The trouble with that is that if you then go for the discreet method, people get suspicious of that too and ask to see ID.

Also, I believe (although this may not be strictly true) that people who are authorised to collect charity money in buckets are not allowed to ask for money or even shake the bucket to entice people in, so I suspect it will be frowned upon even more if you are unofficial.

People prefer to give anonymously so GU's idea to hand out donation slips is a much better idea and could well result in more money being generated that might be the case with tacky buckets or pockets bulging full of cash which, incidentally, is going to make the journey more cumbersome.

Just my tuppence worth. Carry on.

I usually carry a sponsor form with me during the charity attempts, plus the flyer with the web address for donations. I never ask for a donation but if someone offers me cash I ask them to put their details on the sponsorship form. Over the three Children in Need attempts we have probably raised between £150-£200 through donations on the day and people making online cotributions.

I think flyers would be the best approach

And tubeguru is correct you are not allowed to ask for donations or shake tins as this is deemed to be begging which is illigal.
