First and Last trains are all on the London Underground section of the TfL website under "Travel Info and Planned Works"

As for a route, you could do worse than using the Tube Relief start to begin (i.e. Amersham - Chalfont and Latimer - Chesham - Moor Park - Watford - North Harrow - West Harrow (on foot) - Preston Road - Northwick Park - Kenton (on foot) - Harrow and Wealdstone - ???) with an Upminster finish...

Bus routes you might find yourself using during the day:

79/186/340 : Canons Park - Edgware
93 : Wimbledon - Morden
97 : Leyton - Walthamstow Central
142 : Stanmore - Edgware
307 : High Barnet - Oakwood
384 : High Barnet - Cockfosters
U1 : West Ruislip - Uxbridge

And you'll find timetables for those HERE (and actual timetables for the ones operated by First London HERE

Why do you say that?

To "do" an Amersham/Chesham finish you'd need to get the 2340 from Baker Street (due Chalfont 0021), the 0025 to Chesham (due 0034), 0037 back to Chalfont (due 0046) and the 0048 to Amersham (due 0053).

The last "through" District Line train, meanwhile, leaves Richmond at 0007 (0027 at Earl's Court, 0035 at Victoria, 0040 at Embankment, 0050 at Tower Hill, 0054 at Whitechapel, 0113 at Barking) and is due into Upminster at 0132.

Last one from Ealing Broadway is the 2343 (due Earl's Court 0006, Victoria 0014, Embankment 0019, Tower Hill 0029, Whitechapel 0033, Barking 0052) which is due into Upminster at 0111.

And that is why an Amersham/Chesham finish is a bad idea...

Hey all,

1)Epping start. Yeah, don't get the *first* train f rom Epping. This does mean that if you get seriously behind, you won't finish, but if you're a hungry record-chasing tuberanger like many people here are, that's no big deal, surely? I also don't get the first train from Amersham when starting out in good 'ol Buckinghamshire......

2)Heathrow Express: Surely it doesn't matter which way you do it, as if you get the bus to T4, then the express, you've got exactly the same problem. I always have very good exits onto the bus from T4, I usually pick up some of the time I've lost in Heathrow getting out of Heathrow.
Also that would add an extra connection changing at Hatton Cross getting from the tube to the bus. Or am I missing something? Probably!

3) Welcome bigtim! I see you're Sheffield based; if I remember right we have another guy on these forums at Sheffield Uni, so don't worry too much about not being local. Suggest you play around with the tube maps and see what things work; remember that stations that look a long way apart on the tube map may not be (and vice versa) And look at the beginners guide to challenging on the Tube Relief site for a few 'cheats' if you get stuck. Then plug lots of times into the tfl website journey planner and see if you should make it round. Probably easiest to start at Amersham and finish at Upminster (certainly at first)

4)Finishing at Amersham/Chesham: not a total disaster I think, but if you finish by just reversing the 'standard' start, then you can be pretty sure of your finishing time when you are heading up the Bakerloo line. So you know if not to bother and go home

Working that out under the revised Met timetable that comes into effect today, that would mean leaving Elephant & Castle no later than 2153 (assuming everything's running to time)....

Actually it depends on the start time doesn't it?

Especially if you're being crafty and deliberately not getting on earliest trains.

I am NOT thinking about a record attempt yet. I prevere take part in a ZONE 1 challenge first to experience what it is rushing through stations.

And I guess you have to be trained to sit more then 18 hours on a underground train.

So for the first upcomming Zone 1 challenge you can count on me being there

Personally, I found the full thing easier to cope with than Zone 1.

Zone 1 was far more intense.

And okay, so we didnt finish the full thing, but the only point where we felt bored was on the way up to Epping..

We got bored sitting at South Woodford for $DEITY knows how long, on the way back from Epping, courtesy of a signal failure somewhere between Mile End and Stratford....And most, if not all, of my team fell asleep during the trip across town on the Central Line. I awoke somewhere between Shepherd's Bush and White City IIRC....

Still, we did learn a few lessons on the day. Having a team of six is not practical if you're going for the record, for example

Just for information, don't forget the National Rail timetable change on Sunday 11th December, which also sees the end of the "leaf fall" timetable on the Met, so the first train from Amersham goes back to being 0528 instead of 0525.

In other related news, Richmond to Feltham will still be 4 trains an hour for most of the day (06, 18, 36 and 48 ex-Richmond) with the addition of a 23 and 53 in the evening peak.

The entire "one" West Anglia timetable is being recast, with 1 train an hour all day between Stansted and Stratford, calling just about everywhere, pretty much everything else being retimed, and an increase to 4tph on the Chingford branch on Sundays. (05, 20, 35 and 50 from Walthamstow Central to Liverpool Street).

And Vauxhall to Waterloo continues to have an absolutely insane number of services (20 an hour).

Think that covers most of the National Rail routes that have been used in past attempts anyway.
