Yes indeedy! Just to confirm/clarify....

Myself, Matt Scriven and Stephen Karahan* tonight set a NEW DLR CHALLENGE RECORD with a time of 1h 47mins 26secs. Just 9 seconds faster than the previous record!

So if anyone doesn't like us being the holders of this record during the year-ish rest period this record is about to have, they best get out there tomorrow as that will be the only chance! :P

Well that was fun. :)
The gamble to take the bus from Beckton to KGV went horribly wrong. The bus due at 20:15 didnt arrive until 20:22 and we arrived at KGV in time for the 20:30. The 20:30 ended up being 3 minutes late so was taken out of service. :(
We then had the fun of trying to catch the other team and probably came closest at Startford were we missed them by about 1 minute. The next train from Stratford was only 1 minute wait but this was an All Saints terminator, so when we arrived there we have to run to Poplar (not a bad run actually). After seeing the other team cross platform at Shadwell we carried on and Team Brown/Starkey finished in 1:57:17
One day I shall return!

I would love to have been there to see this, I hope any blood wasn't spilt in anger

The more heated argument occurred when we went in search of food near Tower Gateway, and Antony took us all the way out to a KFC that was closed! ;)

Seriously though, the three of us were all seriously chuffed to manage this record. We basically got extremely lucky, by firstly deciding not to bus at Beckton on a hunch, and a punishing run from Gallions Reach-KGV that we thought we only had 8 minutes to do, but when we arrived in 9 minutes we still found our train sitting and waiting (for us? :P ). Soon after that the Jubilee line sorted itself out for us after having been suspended just before, even if the journey to Stratford was rather slow. Then came more luck when a TG train at Poplar that we wern't expecting came in just 1 min after we got there. And finally at approaching Shadwell we got the call from Antony that he and Starkey were on a Bank train and also approaching Shadwell and a quick look at the watch told us that if we got it we might be in with a small chance of the record. We got in just in time, dashed across to our waiting final train and were out again just 9 seconds later. We knew the record was 1hr47 but wern't sure how many seconds it was and even though I had it written in my notes, I thought we were better to just finish and know for sure what our time was before we checked. Sure enough, Matt read out the time and I then read out the record and we had done it!

Even better, having backed Spain since before Euro '08, we arrived at the pub to see the final couple of minutes their drubbing of the "mighty" Russia!
