Not much to go on there but I think I know which direction the train is going ...

Under what circumstances should bonus points be awarded?

Bonus points are awarded purely at the discretion of the person setting the quiz, in the past they have been awarded for somebody giving a very in depth answer or some unusual fact about the station in their answer.

When I said "direction" I meant northbound or southbound.

You should be able to work it out.

I haven't got a clue, but Neil is right - you can tell in which direction it is going if you look closely enough.

It's one of about four stations in my mind.

Thanks for your entries, folks, the past 3 answerers each gave a different station name. I am glad that this one isn't as easy as the initial answers had suggested!

Bugger, I got it wrong then since the number of correct guesses has stayed the same and incorrect has gone up.

Now who's going to admit to being the saddo who goes to all the likely stations it could be and compares the photo with where they are?

Not me.

I will admit, however, that whenever I'm up in London I do look for features/opportunities that could be used in these quizzes.

I am pretty sure that I got it wrong now... having looked at the photo again, I think the roof is a different style to that of the station which I named.

The station was PADDINGTON. All the answers were Bakerloo stations, suggesting you all noticed that the colour scheme was brown.

Many of you mentioned (even some who gave an incorrect answer) that the train was going north, since there were two different destinations displayed, presumably Queens Park and Harrow and Wealdstone. This makes sense to me as it's unlikely that in a deep-level tunnel, ie in Central London or thereabouts, a southbound train would have any other destination than Elephant and Castle.

I tried to smudge out the sign hanging from the roof, directing passengers to the other lines; I left the National Rail bit intact although it is so small it's hardly recognisable. The colours of the District and Circle lines, and of the H&C, could still be visible. This sign is a big clue.

There were a lot of passengers getting off the train, as one of you mentioned, meaning it would be more likely to be a big station such as Paddington. Other than the decor and shape of the station itself, I don't think there were any other clues.

The following gave the correct answer:

editorsfoot
Lancaster Gate
gasman
jbom1
Soup Dragon
Dr Who
Starkey7
tangy

Incorrect answers:
Marylebone x2
Piccadilly Circus
Embankment
Waterloo
Elephant and Castle

Next one will be a little more distinctive.
