Oh sorry, I think that I've misinterpreted "mainline". I thought that you were referring to the National Rail bit, and hence implying "Hammersmith and City platforms", which of course are the only platforms inside the mainline station, rather than being underground.
Looks like I wouldn't have been a winner then! Heh.

Exactly John, I think I was harshly disqualified

I agree, I think that you should be re-instated. But it still make no difference to the results and Jamie & myself are champions in a record time for the "R15" challenge.
With the *new* Paddington interpretation the Swedish Jury changes its mind to:
Holland Park, Shepherd´s Bush (Central Line), Shepherd´s Bush (H&C Line), Royal Oak, Paddington (H&C Line), King´s Cross St. Pancras, Holloway Road, King´s Cross St. Pancras, Old Street, Moorgate, Liverpool Street, Mile End, Stepney Green, Whitechapel, Rotherhithe, Canada Water, London Bridge, Waterloo, Charing Cross, Tufnell Park, Warren Street, Oxford Circus, Green Park, Earl´s Court, Fulham Broadway, Earl´s Court, Ravenscourt Park
yielding a 2h54m22s on an "average day"...
Three times Zone 1 Challenge winner Official record holder in the 2008 Guinness Book of Records, pg 199
... which is only about a minute quicker than the previous 2h55m24s (less than one train interval and presumably less than one standard deviation), despite omitting Paddington (Praed Street).
Indeed, I estimate the stdev to some 10-15 minutes... But still, on the average it's still around a minute quicker (assuming the model is accurate enough - which I actually doubt).

The 100 Z1 times listed on http://jonnylyon.net/tubechallenge/
which cover a diversity of routes and thus are likely to be more variable than repeated trials of a single route, have a standard deviation of about 17 and a half minutes (correcting the apparent typo at #21 in the list and ignoring the possible typo at #47).
I make the stats
Mean 03:13:06
Median 03:10:54
SD 00:17:26 (using N = 100 in the denominator)
As expected, the distribution is somewhat skewed towards longer times (there are strict and obvious limits to time savings, but sadly not to delays).

John, I thought you'd appreciate all this technical stuff. Despite the fact that my IQ is 137 I don't have a clue what hwolge & jbom1 are talking about, but it all sounds very impressive
