Challenge day Fri 1st June - Alphabet / Eve Z1

Post by Going Underground »

All are welcome to attend a challenge day next Friday 1st June...
(Both or either event)

Event 1) Alphabet Challenge (with a twist  )

Meeting outside Oxford Circus tube at Argyll Street at 1100hrs (can be put back to 1200hrs on request)...
(Without drinking this time :( )... You have to visit a station begining with the letter A,B,C,D,E,F.G,H.I,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V and W in strict alphabetical order....
However to avoid any possible following around each team will draw a starting letter (within Z1, so D, I and U will be excluded). They then have to head off to any starting station for the letter drawn and work through the alphabet from there. For example if you draw the letter "M" you must next visit a station begining with "N" and travel around until you finish at a station begining with "L" :P
Your watch starts when the train doors close at your first departure station(letter) and stops when the train doors open at your finishing station(letter) ....

We will then meet up at The Angel in The Fields, Thayer Street for a wash and brush up and some refreshments :D

Event 2) Evening Z1 (Starting at Farringdon  )

We will meet at 1845 for 1900 hrs start and anyone not on the daytime challenge can find us by the ticket barriers..
Usual Z1 rules apply for this.......

Then we shall head off to the post-challenge meet up point being Earls Court McD's

Anyone that is coming to either or both events can confirm on this thread or PM, E-mail or text me........ :D

Look forward to seeing you there....... :D

G.U.

EDIT: U won't be a starting letter either

Because we are doing Z1's in alphabetical order and F is the next letter to do.

Cos I haven't started a Z1 from there yet and it not an ideal station for route planning or quick times........

Also I am up to letter "F" for my starting points within Z1, having done A to E already......

Hmm... I'd say Farringdon's a rather good starting station. If you've got a Russell Square route (and I seem to remember you agreeing with me that Russell Square works quite well, if you're not taking the Starkey approach) you ought to be able to turn that into an almost-as-good Farringdon one by switching the order you do things when you get to King's Cross. Or something like that...

I will certainly try and get along for the evening Z1 from Farringdon.
In regards to the alphabet challenge, although I won't be attending I would suggest you exclude letter 'K' from the the potential start as anyone drawing this has the advantage to finish at Ickenham.
One day I shall return!

Hey guys,

I haven't met most of you but (as it's half term) I may be able to come down for the alphabet. Depending on train times I may stay down for the Z1 too. I can't confirm yet, but you have my interest :D .

Cheers, will be good to meet you!

Yes good point soupie and by the same token perhaps we should also exclude 'V' so you can't finish at a 'U' station and 'E' so you can't finish at Dollis Hill or Debden if you so desire... Then everyone has a pretty level playing field.. :D

Should allow all teams to start and finish within Z1 as well as having to get out and back to the "tricky" letters....

If you really are interested we could probably hang on another 15 mins and start at 1915hrs...
Allowing average of 3hrs 15mins that still allows plenty of time to finish and meet up afterwards........
Keep me posted :D

Damn it! I won't be in London all that week, I will be on holiday in sunny Dorset. So I am afraid I can't attend this one although i am in Tube Challenge mode still.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!
