How can they have made the Harrow run but no train was there, surely that means they missed it....

I can answer that having been following the team since 11am till 9pm. They made the run, Starkey got there before it was due [or at least on time not to be inaccurate] but due to large amount of people on the platform and a lack of train it was apparently cancelled.

They had completed 219 stations I believe when I left them at Tottenham Court Road and they should be able to finish if they don't get any major delays or part suspensions.

A number of bad occurences [such as a delayed Victoria train to Walthamstow because someone fell sick on the train] has held the team back as well as an unusually slow train on the Upminster section.

As for Hakan's question, I believe from what I understood from the team should make Heathrow 4 by that time.

Lastly to address Tubeguru's point, the team are doing it for charity but they are also taking down the usual GWR information on the offchance they make the record. Though this does seem rather unlikely now. At one point they were on time to break the record by a good time but it slipped away around 5-6pm

Slow train on the Upminster section? Isn't that the definition of a District Line train though?!!

at the moment the team are traverling to mill hill east they dont think they will get to heathrow 4 so they said they are going to do a 274 bad news but at least they are having fun

Didn't make it down in the end, only got back to MK at 7:45 after an awful drive through torrential rain, and it wasn't worth coming down to London. Hope the last few hours go well + look forward to hearing the gory details, and whether they've got any better excuses for the Harrow run...

Good morning all, I've just got up at 8 am saturday morning, feeling absolutely knackered. Got back to my mums at 3am after dropping Starkey at Eastcote around 2am. I stopped at Hanger Lane McD's on the way

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to our support team, including our Mum, Alice who was up at 2:50am to take us all to Amersham and meeting us at Morden at 2:15pm with our lunch. My son Phillip (Ping Pon) for keeping you updated with our progress, and Cathryn (LondonGirl) who kept with us for most of the day and was running ahead to stations to help us with advance info, even though we knew that the record was slipping further away as the evening dragged on.

I'm leaving Lightwater for Worthing right now so won't post any more for the moment, apart from saying that we finished at Heathrow T1,2,3.

I'll leave it to my team mates to fill you in and we'll post some more details later today.

Large amount of people at West Harrow at 6.55am? Were they at the right station?!!

The Met suffered from a lot of signal problems yesterday as a result of the weather.

Oh right, it's just that whenever me and Steve have been there it's been pretty empty!

If the Met is suffering because of a bit of rain, what is it going to be like with frost and snow in late December

Ah, cheers Barry! Being the student that I am, I was still in bed until a while after that, so I wasn't aware of the problems. I can't ever remember seeing West Harrow having more than 10 or 20 people on a platform before though!

In our March attempt we arrived West Harrow 6:59:55 (we didn't even try the run) and had to wait until 7:14:56 for a train (probably there was one cancelled then as well). Anyway, my point is that as far as I remember, there were just a few other (no more than 5, I'd say) passengers gathering in that quarter of an hour... So yesterday must have been quite unusual!

When myself and Sam set our record time, we didn't manage the run (largely in part to the fact that we didn't get into North Harrow until 06:51:10). However, it would appear that the next train ran on time for us (departing at 07:06:04), but likewise, in the ten minutes that we were there, I only recall seeing a handful of other people on our platform.

Steve, one detail:
When we eventually got that train from West Harrow, we thought it moved quite slowly as well. It took 7m03s to reach Preston Road (with 24s and 27s intermediate stops) . How does that compare to your times?

Though you thought it went slowly, that was actually quicker than our West Harrow to Preston Road time. It took us 9m35 to reach Preston Road, thanks largely to a 2m39 wait at HotH where no other Met line train was to be seen, and a subsequent 12s wait at Northwick Park.

They wern't the only people out there for children in Need I was with then for the first part of the run to the Bakerloo line and was surprised at the number of people waiting at west harrow.

It was not a good day to ttry for the record but we all had fun I think and raised a nice sum of money for children in need.
