Feeling very sorry for anyone who is out there today, it looks like the worst day ever to do a tube challenge, with the current problems it's impossible for anybody to complete the full network

Nope - we chose sensible months (although February wasn't as good as May).
We got caught in a brief downpour running between the tram and Morden station. It was dry when we got off the tram, and it was a monsoon when we arrived at Morden. We dried off on the trip back to the city.

Depending on how tomorrow goes we may well have another crack next year on a more "sensible" month.....

I can only add that it was a HUGE difference between our March and September attempts.
We had close to freezing temperature in March and had to dress accordingly, which meant we (I) worked up a terrible sweat in the middle of the day etc. It certainly didn't help with heavy clothing when trying to run...
In September it was T-shirt / shorts weather (slightly chilly in the early morning - but acceptable) and it was generally a lovely sunny day that was actually enjoyed on its own merit.
I can only recommend everyone not to try to beat the record before next spring.

Three times Zone 1 Challenge winner Official record holder in the 2008 Guinness Book of Records, pg 199
the two times steven karahan and i attempted the record were in august and december. weirdly, the system was considerably more screwed on our first attempt in august, although on our second attempt the morning rain did mess up the metropolitan line at the start, a lot...
i feel extremely sorry for the people out there today. whoever ****** up north acton this morning should be made to pay a fine to CIN!
the thing that worries me is the "emergency engineering works" taking out the circle line - just wtf? and how long for? will they continue tomorrow?

I think as Zeibura says you really can't tell what is the best month to attempt this with our weather and other problems in London..
Sometimes March can be warmer than September......all just luck of the draw really......
Anyway heaven help us tomorrow I have a felling it's going to be a tough day out there........

just about to leave for amersham now. my final check up reveals that the central and district lines are recovering, slowly but surely, so they SHOULD have finished all this by tomorrow! hurrah! but the weather will still be shite.
i wonder if all the affected parts were planned to be done late in everyone's routes today... that'd be a stroke of luck.
