Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
I've found the song "Thriller" was on the number 1, 3, 5 and 6 albums in the chart on 5 July 2009. However Michael Jackson didn't ever have 1 and 2 simultaneously.
David Bowie had 1+2 albums after his death, but no songs in common.

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
I think the intention of the original question was that the two albums in question would be by different artists, but coincidentally contain their versions of the same song. Even harder to research?!?
Also, it probably didn't include Various Artists compilations, back in the day (until 1988) when they appeared in the main chart. For instance, I went back to the original Now That's What I Call Music that came out in 1983. The album it knocked off number 1, "No Parlez" by Paul Young, was still number 2, so his "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)" was on both.

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
I was thinking along the lines of the artist holding one spot, and one of the Now That's What I Call Music! compilations being in the other spot, with one of the original album's songs on it.

First to 100000 in the 2015+ Tumbleweed contest. Winner of a few rounds of a diverse range of quizzes/games. Some decent times in alternative challenges as a fiftysomething who merely walks briskly. Briefly led All The Actons.

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
I posed the following question on a forum with some fairly politically savvy people, and surprisingly none of them got it. Let's see if I have better luck here.
What was unique about the constituency of Leicester East at the 2024 general election?

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
I believe it was the only seat the Tories won from another party (in this case Labour) across the whole of the UK.

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
Correct!
It was really odd in fact. The previous MP was Claudia Webbe, who'd been expelled from the Labour party after a criminal conviction, and she stood as an independent against the official Labour candidate. The MP before that was Keith Vaz, who resigned from Parliament in 2019 after being suspended for six months after all sorts of shenanigans, and he stood as well. So the Labour vote split three ways, and the result was a Tory victory in a seat they hadn't held since 1987 on the day of the biggest Tory collapse for a century. (Shivani Raja is the new MP.)
Don't know why they didn't make more of it, really

Just realised that I hadn't confirmed this!DavidC wrote: ↑14 Feb 2025, 20:47Peter Rodriguesmichael_churchill wrote: ↑12 Feb 2025, 16:24Who was the last captain to be presented the FA Cup by Queen Elizabeth II?
Yes, Peter Rodrigues with Southampton in 1976. Apparently Her Majesty didn't go to another cup final after that!
I originally posted this question on Peter's birthday (81??) when this fact was mentioned in the local paper.

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
At 8:30pm on Monday 5 January 1959 on the BBC Home Service, an episode of a popular series was broadcast. The title of that episode was used for the name of a pop group that emerged in the early 1990s. What group? (FYI: That episode is currently available on BBC Sounds)

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
Without even cheating, my guess is The Goon Show, the title of the episode being "Ned's Atomic Dustbin".

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
I've found one!michael_churchill wrote: ↑12 Feb 2025, 16:33 Here's a question I've seen in another place - I don't know the answer (or even if there is only one answer) and I don't know how you would research it either...
Name a song that has been a track on the albums at number 1 and number 2 in the UK album chart of a week.
If you have any candidates, I should be able to confirm if they are correct.
"This Boy" was the B-side to the Beatles single "I Want To Hold Your Hand". The Beatles performed both songs on Morecambe and Wise's TV show called "Two Of A Kind". Those versions were included on the first "Anthology" box set (along with some comical banter between M&W and the band), which peaked at number 2 in the chart. The album that kept it off the top was Robson & Jerome's debut, which included their cover of "This Boy".

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
Now that IS obscure. I love the Beatles Anthology boxset too.

Re: Dastardly difficult trivia quiz
Three part question...
For which 'novelty' number one single were each of the following credited as a songwriter?
a) Pyotr Tchaikovsky
b) Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, creators of "Red Dwarf"
c) Pulitzer Prize winning Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich

All the countries that this country shared a border with in 1990 no longer exist. Which country?
