And make sure you use the Toynbee Hall exit at Aldgate East- halves the distance.

Cheers for that, I'll try to make sure tangy and I remember that!

I must say that I am not overly familiar with the ins and outs of the Tube network. Not that I can't handle it on my own, doing trips around it is easy enough, but you need to know every entrance and exit, and where to be on the train. A skill I've never mastered and have no chance of doing so either! Thankfully tangy is in the perfect place to be able to do so, already rather knowledgeable on the subject!

As a result, wish me luck as I go underground...

Will do- may even join you if I'm free. Good luck- it really isn't hard as it sounds.
EDIT: May be a good idea to try an All Lines Challenge if you can next week with the Drain back in place- they take around an hour & are a good way to break yourself in, as it were..

I'm in the mood for zone 1s at the moment, but sadly I'm back at work so I won't be able to join you.

Although if anyone ever fancies a Friday evening Z1 then I'm interested.

Somebody suggested starting at Paddington (other lines) and immediately running to Paddington (H. and City) to "get that run out of the way". The trouble with that is that you haven't arrived at or departed from Paddington (other lines) on a train! So you'd need to go back and do that again, and therefore might as well start at Paddington (H. and City) instead.

What is an All Lines Challenge then? Not familiar with that one at all!

If I were able to, I'd push this back to the evening on Friday. However, the evening peak at places like Stratford, London Bridge and Clapham Junction are havens for spotters like me in the evening peaks, which is exactly what I plan to be doing! I'm desperate to finish off some more of my London classes, the evening after this challenge should help me finish my Networkers somewhat!

That were me.

That plan of mine might include going to Paddytoon again in the challenge, let me see...Yes it does, off the Bakerloo.

Hmm, I see. In that case, scrap the Paddington run altogether, and just start on the Hammersmith and City platform! (That line only has around two services every fifteen minutes, so not only are you avoiding a two-minute run, but you're also not starting the clock until one of these rare trains arrives!)

Welcome to the forum 43019 and good luck with your first Z1C.
If you depart on the Paddington H&C it's probably best to plan some sort of circular route finishing at Paddington on the Bakerloo. You can use national rail between Waterloo & Vauxhall as part of your circular route. Enjoy the Aldgate run it's not far honest! There are at least a dozen other runs that you could consider some of these are not so obvious. Unfortunately I won't be able to make this challenge due to work, after 7pm usually suits me best. Have fun :)

If the editor and soupie let me know which evening they are free then I am sure that Dr Who and myself would be interested in joining you for a Z1 7pm start... :)

A challenge where you have to go on a journey (However Small) on all of the London Underground Lines in the shortest possible time, basically.

Fun...Might try it one day.

I've since been advised and shown maps for the Aldgate run, and one off Chancery Lane, which looks promising!

Starkey7, that's an excellent point, didn't realise the H+C was so, relatively, infrequent!

8 days to go now lads, I cannot wait, the night before I'm going to find it hard to sleep!

EDIT: Where are my manners? Thank you for the welcome Soup Dragon! Here's hoping I set a monster of a time!

Hi gang.

Just a quick update on Friday's challenge:

As I previously mentioned, I might not be able to reach Paddington by 1300 as informed by online journey planners. This is due to the mere 5 minute connection at Oxford (1155 booked arrival time off the Malverns route) onto the 1200 to Paddington, due then to arrive at Paddington at 1255. Anyone that knows FGW at all knows not to rely on this train off the Malverns route arriving on time. Hence I might be delayed arriving into Paddington, probably leaving Oxford on the 1230 (if it exists) to Paddington, depending on what happens. I wouldn't be due to arrive until 1325 probably then though. Hence we should expect a rush down to the LUL platforms to position ourselves for the first moves.

As a precaution, I'll try to top up my Oyster online this week to avoid queuing when I get to London.

Final thought for now is who is up for this run? I assume it'll just be tangy and I. Anyone who fancies coming last minute should attempt contact with tangy or just meet at Paddington around 1300. You never know, I might just make the connection!

Alteration to challenge times

Post by 43019 »

Important update:

Friday's afternoon Zone 1 challenge will now NOT happen. This is due to tangy having a more important appointment to keep.

This is OK by me, as it allows me more time to reach London. It also allows me the chance to go to London via Birmingham and the Chiltern route, which I need to cover.

However, to make up for it, we are now planning to do a challenge in the evening of Friday, starting at 1930. We will be meeting at the monument at Monument between 1900 and 1915, for a swift start at 1930. The starting location for the challenge will still be randomly chosen by myself out of a hat (which I'll be providing). Sod's Law says I'll end up pulling out Paddington (H+C). Which I sincerely hope doesn't happen!

Anyone interested in attending this challenge should either meet us on the day at the monument at Monument station exit, contact directly tangy or myself (PM me for a contact number) or post here in the meantime. I shall not be reading posts or be on the Internet after 2230 on Thursday though in order to prepare for the 3-day trip.

It is hoped this revised challenge suits more people.

I may well be able to make this now as taking place in the evening...

If you want to PM your number I can confirm on Friday :D

edit: Just a thought on this you mention a swift start at 1930 hrs but depending on where the starting station is drawn, then allowing for travelling time to get there and 30 mins for route planning this probably won't start until 2030hrs which is getting late...
I find in my experience is is better to nominate a starting station for evening Z1's but hey it's your event :P

By the way I think at least myself and 2 others are almost certainly going to be able to make this :D
