Mornington Crescent Returns

It's been too long since we had a "traditional" game of Mornington Crescent, I feel.

So, without further babbling:

The rules for this game are standard as set out by the Conventional Trellis Convent, articles 1 through 82. 83 is excepted as it un-necessarily refers to microbiology.

The first eight turns are golden, and the playing of the final act is only permissible as a swift and fatal counter to an ill-advised sub-terranean twist.

Let the madness commence!

And I will.

A safe, fluffy opener to entice you in: CHISWICK PARK.

I think that that's all quite straightforward. I'll go for Turnham Green, which of course isn't at all risky at this stage of the game.

If it weren't for the brevity of this game thus far, I'd be tempted into something altogether different, but as it is, I'll do a simple Broadway Flip and come out in WHITE CITY.

Hmm, hmm. Interesting. I'm thinking about using the Roding Valley - Kennington move here, as beautifully illustrated in the new Morningtono Crescendo (Sage Publications, 2006). But I think I might better wait with that for a later stage in the game.

Southfields it is.

Making certain moves golden is certainly a good move when people have played for a long time.

It would have been too much to claim that stations are high at this stage though.

As we're still in the transition phase, I'm going for:

EAST FINCHLEY

Oh dear, a move from South London to the (not so) far North but including the East. Are we playing according to the points of compass rules? The only sensible move then is to WEST RUISLIP.

Which, incidentally, is not too far away from NORTH SHIELDS.

I'm confused now. Do you mean North Shields, Newcastle? Or do you mean Northfields?

If it's the former, then of course I'd go to Northolt. However if it's the latter, then it's much more difficult, because there are at least five good choices. I'll go for the safest of those: North Wembley.

It must have been the former, so your move is quite an extraordinary one, giving me no choice but to go to SOUTHWARK.

Can all prospective suicidees alight at Southwark so they don't ruin the rest of the network? Cheers.

Well, isn't all this very cultured so far?

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to reject posh play this time, and lurch off to Queens Road Peckham.

Playing the Royalty Move are we? Therefore it has to be King's Cross
