And in case anyone's wondering, the 1528 Lumo service from KX (first stop Newcastle) doesn't get there until 1847, 17 minutes after the 6 hour limit....

One thing I have been wondering for a while is whether it might be worth in future years moving the NR twist round to a little later in the year when the days are longer, purely on personal safety grounds.
A significant proportion of the NR stations are in the "dodgier" areas of London, and doing OSIs between those stations would be preferable in daylight - I can remember one NR challenge a few years ago where two younger lads and I were heading down on Thameslink with just Elephant & Castle and Peckham Rye to tick off. The clock was counting down, and we all concluded that we'd rather declare 14 stations than risk running from E&C to Peckham in the dark, especially as time would likely run out before we completed it.

From the rules:
So if you're already on the Lumo, you're good to Newcastle.During the Challenge...
14. There is a time limit for a “normal” Random 15 challenge of 4 hours. If you are still challenging once 4 hours has ticked by then stop the clock at the next station the train you are on stops at (or if you are at a station, then stop straightaway) and head to the post challenge meet point. “Twist” rounds will have an applicable amount of extra time added, as advised by the Organiser in advance of the challenge.

A fair and valid point, I don't know how round 3 has been associated with the NR twist but that doesn't mean it cannot move to round 5 in April/May in future seasons giving more of the challenge hours in daylight.RJSRdg wrote: ↑09 Jan 2023, 12:40 One thing I have been wondering for a while is whether it might be worth in future years moving the NR twist round to a little later in the year when the days are longer, purely on personal safety grounds.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Playing devils advocate here, but given that there are sufficient daylight hours after the start and before it gets dark, what is to stop competitors organising their route so that they avoid areas that they don't want to be in later in the day?
