Rules Query ("Scheduled Public Transport")

London Bus Museum are having a running day in the East End on 26 March, with buses running to a timetable between Wanstead and North Woolwich (with various stopping points like Beckton).

As the public will be allowed to travel on the buses, does this constitute "scheduled public transport" for Challenge purposes? (It's outside Zone 2, so it's a largely academic exercise as regards the R15 that day, but it could theoretically be used for an attempt on the DLR Challenge).

And does the fact that several of the buses have open platforms which mean passengers can get on and off away from regular stops affect matters?

I had a similar query about Park & Ride buses as I was thinking of using one for a race round all Sheffield SuperTram stops

Park & Ride buses would be valid as they run every day (or most days) and use regular buses.

I think the now-defunct 'Heritage' services (H9 and H15) would have been valid as they were regular services operated on behalf of TfL. Indeed I nearly caught an H15 on one R15 and was only prevented from doing so by waiting for teammates to catch up.

However services that only run on one date and not by a recognised operator may be a different matter.

If there is a published timetable and anyone can buy a ticket, then I would say it counts, especially if they have an LSP for the day.

LSP?

In the case of the bus running day, there's no need to 'buy a ticket' as the service is free (presumably to get round the hire or reward legislation), however there may be conductors issuing free tickets.

Sorry, an LSP is a London Service Permit, having this for your route is the equivalent of registering it with the Traffic Commissioner elsewhere in GB. Not needed if the route is free.

I don't think the operator should matter for this. GIven these services are open to any member of the public to travel on, and run to a publicly accessible timetable, these should count as Scheduled Public Transport.

TIcketing, registration and frequency should all be irrelevant.

(Besides, I don't think we should start banning transport for being rare or unusual. That's part of the fun.)
