I have an idea for a challenge, which uses, although not exclusively, the tube:

To cross the Thames a set number of times using only your feet or public transport.

Basically, you start in the east with the Woolwich Ferry and the foot tunnel at woolwich, and continue westwards to cross the thames at each opportunity (road bridges, footbridges, tube tunnels, ferries, railway bridges etc) I reckon there are 50 crossing points between woolwich and teddington Lock.

Weekdays, the first woolwich ferry is about 06:10. How far can you get.

Logistically, it looks straight forward, but ends up a nightmare.

would you have to go between London Bridge and Bank 2ce, both northbound and southbound?

Does the tube count?

I'd have confined it only to overground crossings personally. That way at least you know which order the crossings come in.

I estimate there are:

2 Ferry Crossings: woolwich and canary wharf
4 crossings using the Jubilee line
2 Northern line and 2 district line crossings (I take it the BR service and the underground use the same bridge between gunnersbury and Kew)
Plus the Victoria, Bakerloo, W&C, and E London lines
DLR between Island Gardens and Cutty Sark
Two Blackwall tunnels (need to use a 108 bus each way)
Rotherhithe tunnel can be done on foot
Normal road and foot bridges, plus overground railway bridges (you get 3 crossings using the two Golden Jubilee Bridges either side of hungerford)
Theres also a foot and a rail bridge at barnes.

A better end to the trip would be kingston Bridge, a bit further upstream from teddigton.

I hate to think how long such a trip would take.

Could it be done in a day? I would imagine it all depends on the last train to cross barnes bridge. The bridges upsteam should all be 24hr.

So would you need to do them in order? What order are Northern/Bakerloo/Jubilee tunnels from Waterloo?

Do tube tunnels count both ways (after all, they are different tunnels...)?

Since foot bridges and road (with pavement) bridges don't close during night, I don't see any natural time limit... So the challenge must be ALL crossings in SHORTEST TIME! Right? Then it must surely be more interesting if you don't have to do them in any particular order?!

The crossings are (working form West to East):

Jubilee - almost right next to Westminster station
Bakerloo - Runs between the London Eye and Hungerford Bridge
Northern - Runs almost right next to the Bakerloo line and right next to Hungerford bridge
W&C - runs considerably to the East of Waterloo Bridge.

DLR? Waterloo? Do you mean the W&C?

A suggested path through to Towe Bridge would be:

1. woolwich foot tunnel: N to S
2. Woolwich Ferry: S to N
Rail from N woolwich to canning town
3. Jubilee Canning Town to N Greenwich
4. 108 Bus through Blackwall: S to N
5. 108 Bus back through Blackwall: N to S
6. Jubilee: N Greenwich to Canary Wharf
7. Canary wharf Ferry (return trip back to canary Wharf)
8. DLR Canary Wharf to Cutty Sark
9. Greenwich foot tunnel S to N to Island Gardens DLR & back to Canary Wharf
10 Jubilee: Canary Wharf to Canada Water
11 Walk S to N through Rotherhithe tunnel to Limehouse DLR, DLR to Shadwell
12 E London Line: Shadwell to Rotherhite, and poss return to catch the DLR to Tower Gateway
13. Tower Bridge
