Sub-surface Challenge 2016

Hi guys,

After originally creating this challenge, I had to put the launch on hold due to other events, but have now decided to launch this event in April 2016. As the name states, it's a sub-surface challenge, which means you must visit all of the subsurface line stations in the fastest time. Please consider coming along, I just thought there should be another new challenge to fight over :-)

It would be a day similar to Random 15 events where there is a start station and a pub that we meet at (probably bricklayers) afterwards.

Many thanks

Erm, Chesham start surely? And it takes absolutely ages to get up there, in my opinion this isn't one of the better ideas.

There's a plethora of unattempted alternative challenges out there, such as:

- The Punctuation Challenge
- The Thames Crossing Challenge
- 4 Hours All Modes Challenge
- The Accessibility Challenge

And of course the SLAM Challenge, the SLAM Challenge, the SLAM Challenge, the SLAM Challenge.

I'm curious, when Crossrail arrives on the scene, will the SLAM Challenge include Reading?

It's South London All Modes, not South of the Thames All Modes and last time I looked Reading wasn't in London.

However Crossrail may come in useful for the sub-surface challenge - assuming a Chesham start and Upminster finish, it's necessary to cross Zone 1 east to west three times. Since there are only two east-west sub-surface lines, the third crossing can be done by any means, and Crossrail (when open) may well be the quickest!

I'll provisionally put myself down for this. I think it's quite a decent challenge.

Good title! I second this proposal, and I also am going to propose a overground (or underground) stations challenge for stations above or below ground.

Hi all. My plans for this challenge are going ahead. I have picked a couple of weekends when this could go ahead, and I know this is short notice, but it would be great if you could come along.

Saturday April 30th 2016
Saturday May 14th 2016

Please let me know on this chat which would be best for you, as it's all about the consumers! :)
The start station will then be confirmed, and it would be great to have a pre challenge parkrun and weatherspoons breakfast too.

Many thanks

I may actually come to this!! The April date would be better for me, though I could make the May date.

I'm assuming a NW Corner start (if we start at Upminster, we'd likely have very few finishing times as Chesham would have to be done at/near the end). As such, parkrun/breakfast I'd imagine would be in the NW Met area - Harrow? Cassiobury? South Oxhey? Gladstone? Aylesbury (a bit far I'd have guessed)?

Would it be daytime or evening? As I might be able to get from Bristol for any time after 17:00 on the May one. MIGHT.

No way can we start after 1700, complete and all get home!! Do you know how far out Chesham and Amersham are?

True...

I did check train times into Paddington and would probably be able to get there for 1400, 1330 at a push!

I can only make 14 May. I don't want to miss an inaugural parkrun in Portsmouth on 30 April.

General question: is it required to use a sub-surface line train to visit all the relevant stations? It's quite possible that a passing Piccadilly train might be handy in some locations.
