Beginner's queries....help appreciated!

Hi, I'm planning to do the tube challenge at some point this summer - aiming initially for a completion rather than a really fast time, and had a few route-related queries...
1) Has anyone any experience of starting at Kensington (Olympia) - I'm almost certain to be doing the challenge on a non-exhibition day and don't want to fail on that station...but if I start there - it will naturally give me an extra long run back in - will I be likely to fail due to that?
2) the rule about national rail tracks - does this mean if I use national rail from Gunnersbury- Richmond, Amersham - Chalfont/Rickmansworth and possibly even Moorgate to Old Street this will count as stations done?
3)apart from Olympia and Heathrow terminal 4, are there any other early line closures I need to be looking out for?
Thanks in advance,
Nigel

another nigel I think u be unique starting at Kensington Olympia 05:50 earliest train possible cannon st you must pass through by 9pm woodford via Hainault must be done by midnight, you even if you walk would be able to start at heathrow or Upminster and get ken o out easily.

1) If you start on the first train from Olympia, that gives you about 19 hours before the last train which should be enough if there aren't any major problems.
2) Gunnersbury - Richmond and Amersham - Rickmansworth are fine to do by NR, but not Moorgate - Old Street as they run on seperate tracks.
3) The other station to watch out for is Cannon Street which closes at 2100.

The other section permissible on National Rail is Queens Park-Harrow and Wealdstone on the Overground.

Moorgate to Old Street on network rail does not count as this does not run on the same tracks as London Underground.

Say I was doing an LO FNC, would I be able to tick Crystal Palace off by using a NR service from Victoria? Or tick off Ken O on other challenges by LO for example?

It is acceptable to use any service that travels over the same tracks, so Queens Road Peckham to Peckham Rye, for example, is permissible on Southern.
I find the map at
http://carto.metro.free.fr/metro-tram-london/ very useful for determining if this applies.

That said, you'll probably visit Moorgate on the sub-surface so as long as you get the Northern from Old Street towards KX, you've covered the stations. It's unlikely to gain much advantage unless the track shuts between the two. I have considered if there's any mileage in going KX to Old Street and then up to H&I

Yeah it is a great link, basically an online version of the London Railway atlas I have (the atlas being slightly more detailed with enlargements)
So it doesn't look like my scenarios would be acceptable then?

Thanks for all the helpful responses.
I didn't think I would go Moorgate to Old Street, but I'm just trying to think outside the box a little.
I'll see how my route planning goes.....
