Newbie all-lines attempt, 04-03-2006

Hello folks.
Been lurking here for a few days, and I now feel suitably inspired to take on a challenge myself and see what the fuss is all about. I'm planning to give the All Lines challenge a go this Saturday, starting some time around 2pm.

No doubt I'm at a slight disadvantage not being a Londoner, but you never know... my route came out of 10 minutes worth of scribbling, and on paper at least, I can't see any earthly reason why it wouldn't get me round comfortably under an hour. So either I've discovered a perfect route that everyone else has somehow overlooked, or there's a horrible flaw in my plan which is going to make me look foolish. Given the immense depth of knowledge I've seen here, I think I know which one it's going to be, but I'm going to find out the hard way anyway.

...And if I do fail dismally, I've got my unconvincing faked photo gallery at the ready. What, that's not part of the procedure? Oh.

Welcome, Gasman!

Good luck for your attempt. Bear in mind that the East London Line has a very high possible wait time, as does the Hammersmith, and do make sure that the W&C is open at the weekend!

In fact I'd even go so far as to say that weekends are bad times to do the ALC, as there are always engineering works going on that see many of the lines suspended in certain parts. Luckily it's rarely the parts that I want to use but that's another matter.

Good luck anyway!

"WATERLOO & CITY LINE: Saturday 4 March suspended due to planned engineering work."

Ack. I see your point... looks like it'll have to wait until whenever I'm next down, then.

Don't think I'll get many opportunities to give it a go on a weekday - I can't really justify taking a day off work for a challenge. Not until I get really competitive, anyway.

Don't worry too much about taking days off work... Check out the write-up of my Zone 1 Challenge attempt that took place a year ago:

Needless to say - I'm hooked!

  WHAT DO YOU MEAN? FAKE?
(If anyone can prove a fake or stolen picture in my 64 pic gallery http://lund.dyndns.org/Zone1/images.html then I'll personally buy him (or her) a pint on the 19:th of May).

Tubegure - I think you should ban this character "tubeguru", who seems to persecute me and everything I do...

:D

Yeah, tubeguru is a disruptive influence. I'll run a poll to see if he should be banned.

I must start reading the posts more thoroughly before replying... I must be a bit paranoid after the Paddingtons accusations...

Sorry tubeguru!

Tx crunchy!

If your route avoids Oxford Circus & you work in London I'd recommed doing your route in rush hour if that helps

welcome gasman.

I suspect I can guess which of your 2 options will happen as well, but it's all part of the fun + very valuable experience for doing better next time!

Looks like everyone's doing the All Lines Challenge at the moment-what will we do when the W+C line goes down at the end of March?

Do an 11 line seperate challenge?
Or add 6 minutes on to all times done in that time to integrate them?
I don't know...

personally (seeing as my previous comment probably wasnt too helpful) I would say that the All Lines would be unable to be completed. The W&C can be quite influential in the time set and it would be unfair to simply add however many minutes. I am going to start doing some Zone 1's instead of a couple of All Lines. Maybe that's the way to go!?
