Thought I'd have a go at creating my first tubeforum quiz.

I am certainly no expert and so all of these questions have been formed with quick Google searches, hopefully it will be pretty simple to have a crack at!

1. Name a full member airline of the Oneworld alliance who joined in 1999 or 2000.
2. Name a current non-Indian destination of Drukair – Royal Bhutan Airlines.
3. Name an aircraft type currently operated by Air Koryo within its passenger fleet (sub types excluded - so Tu-204-100 and Tu-204-300 for example would be classified as the same answer).
4. Name a scheduled passenger airline currently operating the MD-90 aircraft.
5. Name an airport in Turkmenistan served by a scheduled service on a commercial passenger airline.
6. Name a scheduled passenger airline currently operating into Asmara International Airport.
7. Name an airline for which Concorde has operated a scheduled passenger service.
8. Name a frequent flyer program of an airline headquartered in the UK.
9. Name an African country flown into by a British Airways 'franchisee' airline.
10. Name a passenger or cargo airline headquartered in Hawaii, USA.

Entries must be submitted by PM before 7pm on May 21st 2013

P.S. Any questions can be either clarified below or submission risked if you believe that you have found an ambiguity or loophole within one of the questions.

Well those questions certainly threw up some obscure airlines.

Thought I'd keep everyone on their toes although the answers received so far have been interesting to say the least.

Question: are all of mine correct?

I can't comment on the answers unfortunately

But if you are unsure of any question you can of course clarify it within the thread!

Also I am thinking at the end of the quiz's going forward there should be a preliminary scoring after which people can discuss some of the more controversial answers (not saying there are any in this quiz) after which the scorings can be finalised.

Well as I can't re-submit my answers, surely a "yes" or "no" wouldn't exactly ruin it for anyone else, would it?

Oh sorry didn't realise those were the rules - have PM'd you.

I thought it was a given that once submitted, you couldn't re-submit. You choose - you're running this one.

The reason I wasn't sure was that I 'clarified' two of my answers to The Raven in the last quiz - in that my initial submission answers were ambiguous so I clarified what I was trying to get across. Whether that is changing the answer I don't know.

But I would say that if the position has been no changes then I am happy to keep it like that.

OK we're six days into the nine day entry period - time for the first nudge.

I've had four entries so far which has thrown up some very interesting patterns. Any more for any more?

Second nudge for the penultimate day.

Up the six entries now. Still a couple of the usual faces missing though...

Right, here are the provisional answers and results. It looks like there were a few incorrect answers so I am open to feedback on the scoring. Anyone who feels hard done I will consider the responses and alter as appropriate.

1. Name a full member airline of the Oneworld alliance who joined in 1999 or 2000.
Aer Lingus (tubeguru)
Iberia (The Raven)
LanChile (Going Underground)
Qantas (al, greatkingrat, tractakid)

Incorrect Answers
-None

2. Name a current non-Indian destination of Drukair – Royal Bhutan Airlines.
Dhaka (al, tractakid)
Paro (tubeguru)
Singapore (Going Underground, greatkingrat, The Raven)

Incorrect Answers
-None

3. Name an aircraft type currently operated by Air Koryo within its passenger fleet (sub types excluded - so Tu-204-100 and Tu-204-300 for example would be classified as the same answer).
An-148 (al, greatkingrat)
Il-62 (tractakid)
Tu-204 (Going Underground, The Raven)

Incorrect Answers
-Il-76 (tubeguru) - I asked for an aircraft within the Air Koryo 'passenger' fleet. Whilst this aircraft type has been operating passenger flights for a number of recent aviation tours to the country, the aircraft is stationed with the cargo fleet.

4. Name a scheduled passenger airline currently operating the MD-90 aircraft.
Delta (tubeguru)
EVA Air (greatkingrat)
Saudia (al, Going Underground, The Raven)

Incorrect Answers
-Japan Airlines (tractakid) - Unfortunately this an example of Wikipedia being out of date (and not for the last time in this quiz). I feel quite harsh marking this as incorrect as the aircraft was only retired from the JAL fleet last month. I did look to give points here but the question did state 'currently' (http://www.ch-aviation.ch/portal/news/1 ... -md-90-30s).

5. Name an airport in Turkmenistan served by a scheduled service on a commercial passenger airline.
Ashgabat (Going Underground)
Mary (al, greatkingrat, The Raven)
Turkmenbashi (tubeguru)

Incorrect Answers
-Atamurat (tractakid) - Wikipedia again. From my research Atamurat Airport has not seen scheduled passenger flights since 2004. A new international airport is however being constructed by Ukrainian contractors for completion in the next few years.

6. Name a scheduled passenger airline currently operating into Asmara International Airport.
Lufthansa (Going Underground, tractakid)
Nasair (greatkingrat)
Sudan Airways (al)
Yemenia (The Raven, tubeguru)

Incorrect Answers
-None

7. Name an airline for which Concorde has operated a scheduled passenger service.
Air France (al, greatkingrat, The Raven)
British Airways (Going Underground)
Singapore Airlines (tractakid, tubeguru)

Did wonder if anyone would go for Baniff here!

Incorrect Answers
-None

8. Name a frequent flyer program of an airline headquartered in the UK.
British Airways Executive Club (Going Underground)
Flying Club (al, The Raven)
Rewards4all (greatkingrat)
Vantage Club (tubeguru)

Incorrect Answers
-Diamond Club (tractakid) - Unfortunately, whilst Diamond Club still exists, it is no longer a frequent flyer program. It is still in situ only to service BMI branded credit cards.

9. Name an African country flown into by a British Airways 'franchisee' airline.
Namibia (al)
South Africa (Going Underground, tractakid)
Zambia (tubeguru)

Incorrect Answers
-Nairobi (greatkingrat) - Question asked for 'country' and Nairobi is a 'city'. Question also asked for flights by a British Airways 'franchisee' airline and was thus looking for Comair destinations. Nairobi is served by the BA parent.
-Uganda (The Raven) - Question asked for flights by a British Airways 'franchisee' airline and was thus looking for Comair destinations. Uganda is served by the BA parent.

10. Name a passenger or cargo airline headquartered in Hawaii, USA.
Island Air (al)
Mokulele Airlines (greatkingrat)
Pacific Wings (tractakid)
Trans Executive Airlines (Going Underground)

Incorrect Answers
-go! (The Raven, tubeguru) - The go! airline is 'headquartered' in Phoenix, Arizona as detailed on both Wikipedia and the FAA database.

So that leaves provisional scores on the doors as:

tubeguru (despite two incorrect answers!!) - 32
Going Underground - 72
al - 648
greatkingrat - 648
The Raven - 5,184
tractakid - 6,912

As I have won, I will not argue my incorrect answers. Unless someone else's score is altered to displace me!

Sigh. All of my answers were correct according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an often encouraged source of information for these quizzes, if that has any influence. Perhaps next time, before setting the quiz, you correct all misleading information on Wikipedia beforehand!
