I've just noticed that the word "stop" appears in a lot in the clues. Is that the connection with tube challenging by any chance?

All the "stop" clues are 6 letters long and there aren't that many 6 letter tube stations.

5 across must be PINNER I think.

As eventually spotted, all the six letter solutions in this crossword were the names of stations on the standard tube map. Two were DLR stations, the rest Underground. The entry on this crossword blog provides explanations, if required: http://fifteensquared.net/2011/05/28/gu ... nigmatist/
