Everyone identified this as being on the Epping-Ongar railway, but the split between North Weald and Blake Hall was fairly even at first, and the confidence of some who guessed wrong even had me doubting!

Those who gussed North Weald:
garion24wales
perkyperky
mps247 (making his/her competition debut too!)
dudey
jbom1
Starkey7
barrykas

Those who guessed Blake Hall:

This was North Weald, and Jbom1 found the link to the original picture too. Next pic tomorrow morning.

Oh c'mon,

Can't blame a few people for getting it wrong based on the pictures available on the internet of Blake Hall station...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Blake ... tation.jpg being just one that is pretty close to identical

Another picture of North Weald would be http://www.piccadilly-line.org.uk/LULCe ... hWeald.jpg though, so ok as the lamp posts in the background are different

I think Blake Hall only ever had one platform. The station in the picture has a second, disused, platform from which the photo was taken.

Yes, I think that's true. I think Ongar only had one platform too - I think the only reason North Weald had two platforms was due to its use as a passing place when two trains used to run down the line. However, I'm not sure about that. I wasn't even born before Blake Hall closed, so my knowledge of the line is from reading things about it on the web and news stories in 1994 when the rest of the line closed.

I understand that it was indeed a effectively passing loop, but also used on a couple of days a year during the North Weald Air Show for terminating specials.

You have no idea how much I wanted to respond to that when I got tubeguru's answer.

He was right. It WAS easy. Especially so if you got it right.

I didn't say I had got it right. I said it was easy.

As it turned out, it was easy for the people who got it right.

So ner.

And it was easy to get it wrong, as he demonstrated so well.
