I'm posting this a bit late, but better late than never, right? Last October, inspired by Geoff Marshall's attempt that was televised on The Tube series, I did Mexico City's network. It's in the Top 10 of all three size measurements (stations, length, passenger numbers) and is a pretty cool Metro system. Took me 10 hours and 11 minutes in total. At times the Mexico City metro becomes an art piece, which I duly photographed!

Looks like a tube system that runs overground

Why the shock, Kevin? Doesn't ours often do the same?

It just looks as though they go "up and over" to avoid obstacles rather than tunneling below?

It's just like London - the central part of the network is all underground. Outside the centre a lot of it is overground. Made by the French in the very late 60's and 70's, which explains the rubber wheels. Problem is, it is now rainy season so the overground stretches get very slippery, and the trains go rather slowly and skid. Stupid French!

Only 2 pesos per journey though, which is cheap cheap!

And does it work well? I mean, does it run on time, does it cover the right places, and is it as fast as the fastest mouse in all Mexico?

Generally speaking, its very good. Good coverage, clean, cheap, reasonably comfortable and you never have to wait more than a few minutes for the next one. On the negative, it does get a bit hot in summer and it does get pretty crowded during rush hour. But if you've ever wanted to be a sardine, here's your chance!

They're building a new line, Linea 12, at the moment.
