It's comforting to know the rarest train service from Kensington (Olympia) is not the District line...

Must be talking about the Tuesdays only rail replacement bus between Ealing Broadway and Wandsworth Road via Olympia.

I was actually only talking about train services. No buses in this conversation, tangy. Sorry.

Well, this is rail replacement bus, which has run since 2008 when Cross Country trains to Brighton were withdrawn. So it is still a rail service, albeit run by a bus!
There is also a once a day return train between Olympia and Wandsworth Road but there is prosopals to withdraw this (and the above replacement bus) from December.

Its a bus, not a train.
It is therefore not a train service.

Has a train ever replaced a bus service?

Well, semi related is the case of the Cumbria floods that affected Workington badly a few years ago, to the extent that the only undamaged bridge over the rver was the rail bridge (due the rail bridge being nearer the mouth of the river).
This meant there was no way over the river for road traffic, unless they did a long detour inland. This prompted the very speedy building of Workington North (temporary) station on the north bank of the river and free loco hauled shuttle trains over the rail bridge for everyone, until the road bridges were repaired

Thats interesting- thanks for sharing. I love the little quirks and oddities like this. Yes, stations like Mill Hill East and Kensington olympia are also interesting.

Yes, I agree. Legalities only go so far, and at some point, common sense must prevail.
