This will be along the lines of the idea which seemed to be well-received when posted earlier; a starting station is drawn in advance, and then all the other stations which have to be visited are drawn at the start of the challenge, and you have to plan your route as you go. I don't want that to take all night, so will work out a sensible number of stations/which zones to use nearer the time.
May I humbly suggest the following setup for the warm-up challenge:

* Use a fixed start station (and quite possibly a fixed end station as well?)
* Limit it to Z1 & Z2.
* Draw 15 (?) random stations. Enough to make planning interesting.
* Put a time limit on the event, i.e. get the highest number of target stations before XX o'clock. If two teams share maximum number (quite possibly all of them) the quickest time for this number of stations is the winner!

This is one of those annoying times of the year when not being able to chose when to take your holiday is a bit of a bugger. Oh well, enjoy the official challenge everyone and I will have to stick to the other Z1s.

Return ticket to London: £400
Accommodation: £60
Getting one over on the Swedes: priceless

Can anyone offer Geoff a sofa for the challenge to tempt him over? Would be great to see you again if you can make it.

And thanks for your comments above hwolge - I've used them to start a new thread in this section.

Unfortunately, yet again, I have got an exam on this date, so will be unable to take part which is a bugger as I was looking forward to doing my first Z1 Challenge!
Best of luck to all participants though!

Why don't we do this in June, when exams are over?

I guess the problem is that a date is not going to suit everyone, June is creeping into the holiday season plus it could be damm hot..
We did a couple of Z1's last summer and it really was a sweatbox at deep level with all that rushing around...

Having said that it's shame that Steeevooo can't make it, would have been nice to have as many GWR records holders there as poss... :(

We wouldn't want to overshadow you non-record holders ...

Well, even if you make it during easter week (best of luck) it's really touch and go, whether it will be confirmed by May 18:th...

BTW Will you announce what exact days you're attempting it, so that we can follow the general situation on tfl.gov.uk?

And, Kevin, I think the Harrow run is highly overrated...

But, best of luck anyway,

Thanks Hakan
Yes I realise that in the unlikely event of our success that it almost certainly won't be confirmed by Guinness by the 18th May...
I am sure it will make for an interesting discussion in the evening though :D

Well we are still to 100% confirm but looking like our "2 bites of the cherry" will be Thurs 5th and Fri 13th (Yes FRI 13th  ) April...
One slight drawback I am currently nursing a torn side muscle...

Totally agree the Harrow run is very overrated
Subject to timings we are currently working on this could well be dropped in attemps 3 and 4.. Fingers crossed as it's certainly not the highlight of my day :(
