My first thought - given the timing - was American Presidents, but clearly Warren G. Harding (d 1923) was never an astronaut!

Correct - Governors general of Canada, since independence in 1867.
The 6th was Lord Stanley who bought (on Regent Street) and donated the cup that the NHL now fight over.
The 15th was John Buchan, author of the 39 Steps.
The 23rd and 27th opened an Olympic Games because of their post, as representative of the monarch. The one time the Summer Olympics were held in Canada, Montreal 1976, QE2 opened it herself, but the two times the Winter Olympics were held there it was up to the Governor general - Jeanne Sauve at Calgary 1988 and Michaelle Jean at Vancouver 2010.
The 29th, the one before the current, was Julie Payette who went to the ISS twice.

They were all co-written with other people. Three of the four songs were written by the same group of people, but the fourth was written by one of them with somebody else.
