EastActionWoman wrote: 22 Sep 2021, 09:06 I haven't spent a lot of time trying to update my Z1 route. Current plan is to just tack on the Northern line extension to the end of it. Would normally finish at Vauxhall, so from there head to Battersea Power Station and get Northern line to Kennington and finish there instead. I popped down there yesterday evening, and even with wearing the air boot, it only took 10 minutes to interchange from Vauxhall to BPS.

Once the timetable increases to 10 or 12 trains an hour next year, then I think the doubleback would be quicker instead.
I attempted the South of the River challenge on Tuesday, using the bus to get from BPSS to Vauxhall. I was very lucky in two respects: There was a [check front of train]-bound train waiting at Kennington when I arrived on the adjacent platform, and there was a bus already at the stop at BPSS when I arrived there. If I'd had to wait a long time for a bus, doubling back might have been quicker. But there are ~20 buses an hour serving that stop, so the NLE would have to massively increase service frequency for the bus not to be the best bet.
Nice one! Did you finish the challenge? What was your time?

Just over 2h04, which is actually slightly faster than I had done previously without the NLE. But had been waiting to try out a new route that I've been working on during lockdown.

2:18:03 yesterday for me for the South London (tube) challenge with the simplistic addition of a NLE return to get a time on the reset board.

That's a bit disappointing bearing in mind my 2016 time was 1:51:07 http://www.tubechallenge.com/forum/view ... p?p=100195 . "Only" 20 minutes of the difference was taken up on the new branch, with the other seven coming from various minor annoying aspects adding up. Lots of other aspects worked just as well as previously, which was reassuring.

I'll certainly research more about the Vauxhall/BPS(S) area before having another go - at first glance, I think I'll need to keep reminding myself to include Oval while planning the new route. Whether I manage to have another go before the Bank branch closure remains to be seen.

Travelling from Vauxhall to Oval on foot had crossed my mind a couple of years ago - It didn't save any time in the experiments that I and another challenger undertook. BPS to Oval may be a different matter.

As a member of Surrey CCC, Vauxhall to Oval on foot will lose you time. Considerably. Much better off changing at Stockwell.

I'm planning to try the Zone 1 challenge this Sunday afternoon as there are no engineering works planned, and I have a route I would like to try for this challenge I've never really gotten on with! If you're free late afternoon/early evening and want to join me then let me know and we might be able to make it happen.
