My umbrella isn't agreeing this morning!
That was my reaction too, except that I don't have an umbrella since I cycle.

Hmm, I wonder if a cheap portable umbrella is a useful piece of TC kit?

Under normal challenge conditions, I'd say no to an umbrella.

When myself and Geoff did Wimbledon to Morden (in 11 minutes as he quite rightly points out) it absolutely lashed it down on the run to Morden station. In fact, I couldn't see where I was running because of it.

We got absolutely soaked but were all dried out by the time we got back up the Northern line.

It's only water. Don't be bunch of big jessies :-)

Well

Let's be honest here, as we're talking London that should be "it's only water plus assorted pollutants for flavour" :P

Anyway, you wouldn't want to be leaving Victoria station on a rainy morning as I did today, surrounded by short people holding umbrellas - they can be bloody dangerous (umbrellas I mean, not the vertically challenged)! I want to keep my eyes where they are - in my head :D

oh, oh I forgot to tell you all about this - I was so surprised I nearly choked on my chewing gum!

I was waiting on the northbound Victoria line platform at Victoria last Thursday on my way home at about 6pm...
the train came into the platform...
as I stand at the far end of the platform I can see the driver as he slows down...

and guess what...

he was wearing a dustmask!

Aren't they soft! They look great and the logo came out really well didn't it. Shame they're white, though.

The American has landed! Yes, finally made it this morning. What beautiful weather we have today. I am out and about trying to get them to clean my room. I stopped by the PO to use the net. Will call Geoff and Paul later today. Oh this is GREAT!

Welcome to our lovely city - and don't be fooled by today's nice weather - it might be awful tomorrow :? lol

I don't know what your plans are for your stay but there are lots of interesting things to do that aren't immediately apparent to visitors (Petticoat lane market, Embankment to Greenwich on the ferry, lunchtime jazz at the 100Club - I could go on for hours!) Chat to us Londoners tomorrow night - I mean, you don't want to spend your entire time here traipsing around with hundreds of those American tourists do you? :D
(ahem - don't answer that!)

See you tomorrow and enjoy your first day here

At what time will most people be getting to the pub in Amersham on the night before the challenge?

Also, is there a time to check in by at Nita Hurley's?

Who am I sharing a room with?

That'll depend almost entirely on traffic in our case!

I'm aiming for about 9.. (by the time I get home from work, change etc, get tube to the edge of no where, go check into my pub room and get to that one)
