2. Have fun
3. Get around the whole network
4. Set a new GWR !!!

As Soup Dragon states we have 4 objectives and the first one is coming along very nicely at the moment.....

Having been support team for a vast majority of the day recently on a GWR attempt it is easy to see how one bit of bad luck can screw the whole day up. Between midday and early evening and hour was lost and no matter how hard they tried this time could not be made up......

So while we are going around on the 17th Nov we might as well log the trains numbers and times and get witness statements, you never know it may all drop into place on the day

Anyway again many congrats to Hakan and team and don't forget to post a picture of the actual certificate when it turns up so we can see your name in lights

Yes that's it, like you say once you have been a record holder that can never be taken away from you and you guys managed to have the privilege for a couple of years...

And now look - everyone's smashing it left, right and centre.

I think you have to blame Geoff and Neil - creating such a hype around the phenomenon.

I for one would probably not have been involved, had it not been for Geoff's site and the Zone 1 Challenge -04 (and -05). And then this forum on top of everything!

Well, Geoff was documenting his various attempts on his website, and late in 2004 I thought it might be a good idea to create a specialist website for it. I therefore set it all up in January 2005.

Naturally, a forum was a no-brainer and so here we are.

Blame Geoff for the hype - he's the one who alerted the media I'd have been happy to keep quiet but I was more than happy to let him do his thing.

I suppose we've created a bit of a monster between us - EVERYONE is out doing little challenges these days. I can't help thinking that the proliferation of smaller challenges may have driven some older forum users away though.

I know one disgruntled person who moaned at me because people were out doing Zone 1 chalenges every few days, but that's the way it's gone.

Yes it's all down to Geoff really.....he got the media involved and we had TV coverage..I tracked down Geoff's website and this linked to tubechallenge.com and the rest is history as they say

If I hadn't seen Geoff on the tube episode I would have been totally ignorant of tube challenging...which I believe is how many people found their way into this forum......

I don't really take on board the point about forum users going away. I don't really want to trawl over old ground again but surely an active forum with plenty going on is better than a quiet one that is just discussing full network attempts?

I really cannot understand the attitude problem with the "little challenges"
We have had seperate sections for off topic chat and alternative challenges for some time and the home page talks about these as well....

Congratulations Hakan! Can't believe how quickly GWR have confirmed your attempt after taking the best part of 4 months to confirm ours, but congratulations nonetheless.
I have to agree that Tube Challenging as a competition has Geoff to blame, for were it not for his exploits on "The Tube" on Sky Travel, then I for one, would probably have never even thought about visiting all the LU stations in the quickest time. Once I had seen the programme, I knew that I wanted to have a go at it, and when Geoff announced Tube Relief, that gave me the impotus to go out there and actually do the bloody thing!
Anyway, lets not take this topic off track, and my full congratulations go to Hakan & Co, very worthy people to take the record off of myself and Sam.

I also think Keith Lowe deserves being mentioned here. In fact, had I not come across "Tunnel Vision", I'd probably never had found Geoff's site in the first place! I've heard/read similar accounts in several different places...

While I wish everyone well with their own attempts at the record, I have a sneaky feeling that Hakan & Co. will be the holders for some time. Just my opinion, of course.

And then I'll have a crack at it sometime in Spring 2007 (once my gammy knee has healed).

You've changed your tune in half a thread! Interesting what you were saying about the timing of the website, I thought that it had been around a bit longer than that. In fact, had I had the idea of visiting all the tube stations a couple of months earlier than I did, I might have found no website and abandoned the idea very quickly!
