I use WAGN very very occasionally....well I've used it once to get from Bishops Stortford to Liverpool Street.
It was absolutly packed (The train had come from Stansted Airport so I guess this is why it was so busy) but I still managed to get a seat. I would rate this service above TL, as at least the seats are secure in thier fittings, and there are other things like tables, a magazine to read and a catering service.

WAGN
WAGN have on two occasions recently (in fact within four days of each other) done something very annoying. I was waiting for a train at Edmonton Green at the board advised a train leaving in about six minutes. Five minutes later the train was still advertised as on time and I thought its arrival was imminent.
Then that train just disappeared from the board and didn't turn up - no PA announcement to say it was cancelled or anything.
Obviously there is a right for information about cancellations. This right is for first class ticket holders only.

This confused me too, I was on a train that was branded both Stansted Express and WAGN, yet when I looked at the arrivals boarfd at Liverpool Street it said I had just come off a ONE service. I think Bishops Stortford station was branded in ONE signs too.

Not like up here, it's either SPT (Strathclyde only) or First Scotrail (everywhere else in Scotland).

That's the same as up here, Half the trains are still in the old Scotrail livery, and the other half are in the new First Scotrail Livery. Occasionally you'll see two trains joined together, one with the old colours and one with the new ones. For a while we had Hull Trains running between Edinburgh and Glasgow, but they have been Repainted and put on the Inverness service now.Zeibura wrote:the lea valley/stansted lines used to be run by wagn a few years ago. one haven't got round to painting all the trains yet

i'm surprised they got away with that! surely it would have baffled people. it seems to confuse people even when they put thameslink stock on southern metro lines, just because the map inside indicates that the train is going to brighton.travelpass wrote:For a while we had Hull Trains running between Edinburgh and Glasgow,

I think First moved the Class 170's from Hull to up here, when Hull Trains got new stock.
Scotrail mainly use Class 170/171's so I suppose we just got them instead of them goig to waste or abroad or soemthing. They have all been repainted now, but they still have Hull trains features inside, with different seating arrangements and a buffet bar. They are only used on the Edinburgh/Glasgow to Inverness Service so I haven't used them yet.
I did see a GNER 125 at Dundee with a few Midland Mainline carriages the other week though.

The West Anglia bit of WAGN, First Great Eastern and Anglia Railways all became London Eastern Railway (trading as "one" Railway, and part of National Express Group) on 2004-04-01. The GN bit of WAGN and Thameslink became First Capital Connect on 2006-04-01.
Stansted Express, along with the Gatwick and Heathrow Express, is jointly marketed under the "Airport Express" brand, but is still operationally part of "one".
In recent weeks, it has been quite common to see former Great Eastern units working West Anglia services (both with and without wagn units attached), and I reckon you could theoretically get 8 different liveries at Hackney Downs at the same time quite easily.
Another thing that's become less reliable in recent months seems to be the Overhead Power Supply. It failed on a Sunday a couple of months ago, then mid-week a couple of weeks later, causing massive disruption in both cases.
Cheers,
Barry

We only have Diesel up here, apart from in the Strathclyde Area (Glasgow and anything West of the city) is Electric.
Why is Luton Airport not part of this Airport Express brand, is it a BAA thing only?
I wonder if Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports will get thier own Expresses when they finally get thier own Rail Links...they are both BAA airports.
Mind you, Glasgow or Edinburgh Express don't have the same ring to them as Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted.
While on the subject of Thameslink, when FCC build the new station at St Pancras and close down KXTL wil they still be offering the through London service?
Also, why did KXTL used to be called MIdland City?
I have a map of London on a bag (very good source of history therE) and it calls it Kings Cross Midland City....although it does Call Maida Vale Maidens Hale too.

Looking at an A-Z from late 60s early 70s was rather interesting and provoked several questions.
-Years before Thameslink was installed there was a line running south of Farringdon past a depot in between Chancery Lane & St Pauls (Site of CT) and down to Blackfriars. What was it used for?
-The Bakerloo only runs to Stonebridge Park- When did that stop?
- What services ran from Broad St?

Crunchy - stop dissing thameslink, you're a luton boy
, so its your home line hehe.
Neil - ur a daily commuter so your allowed to criticise it.
I live in Hatfield these days and id far rather get a bus to St Albans and use Thameslink/First than walk up the road and use the piece of shite known as One/WAGN/train every half hour/i'll pick and choose which stations i'll stop at/u'll get mugged on this line/First Capital Connect.
