I'm rather excited about this whole business. Planning a route is much more difficult than I thought. I have one drawn up at approx. 3h30 with changes of 3 minutes and runs of up to 10 minutes. This is obviously exaggerated since the longest run isn't much more than half a mile... but the route may change.

And that's not going to be fast enough to win!

What sort of duration changes does everyone generally experience?

EDIT: This is bad grammar. "How long, do you find, does the average change take?" would have been better!

hey guys! friday may 20th sounds awful actually, i have work that day, but fortunately my boss is a legend and loves the fact that im into the tube (he's american, as is the rest of my team) so it shouldnt be a problem gettin that day off. and its nice to see that someone else comes from the Luton area like myself!! woo yeah! can i confirm that there will be a start time of around 11am? this will be important as i may not be able to get friday night off work.

I should think the race-day mask will get quite grey as I'll be breathing heavily. I wonder if it will impede my progress much. I may well have to remove it for the overground runs!

Drawn 2 more routes. Having trouble with "the Vauxhall appendage" as I call it. It's VERY annoying. I think I have a potential 2hr 57min route and a 2hr 58 one.

I've had an idea!! At Oxford Circus, you could persuade an assistant stylist technician supervisor (or whatever they're called) to write the start station on one of the boards!! Not mentioning the tube challenge or anything, just "START: Sloane Square", omcetera, omcetera.

OK, that was a bad idea.

I think I'll be doing a test run next week. Maybe next Wednesday, or possibly Thursday.

I had this crazy idea about doing the tube in a day about a month back, digged into it a bit, and found that all this was going on!

I'm not sure if I can definitely make it on the 20th but I'll try to be there. I'd love to meet other people interested in this, as I've mentioned it to some of my friends but they're not interested.

I had a trial run on the Zone 1 the other day. 3 hours 9 mins. Methinks that running uphill across Hyde park into a headwind suggests my route can be improved

I'll tell you that mine didn't involve running across Hyde Park, although that would be nice!

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.

(Geoff, I found your site first, that was got me thinking seriously about this!)

I have some rather big news however. After checking out a couple of connections on Saturday, and tweaking my route, I did another run from Vauxhall yesterday (Monday 11th) and finished in a time of 2hours, 45 minutes, 11seconds!!!!!

I could hardly believe it! The first half was a dream, lots of jump on connections. The second half included another unplanned run in the South West corner, but I think it may have saved me some time. I had a "theoretical timing" sheet with me, and was expecting to get round in 3hrs 5mins. I got 20 minutes up at halfway, then with 4 trains to go, only had to do transfers within stations, so knew it should hold together. 3 trains to go: "Delays due to signal failures at Edgware Road" Thankfully I'd already cleared Edgware Road, but the final connections were not so good, and I was relieved not to have any major problems. I think that my longest wait was 3/4 minutes. I finished at Euston, by the way.

I kept a record of times in and out of stations, but didn't do anything like note down train numbers/get witnesses-is this expected on the Zone 1 Challenge Day? As a result, I have only my timing sheet as evidence

Also, I was wondering whether you have to do both Bank and monument as they are connected? I did them both this time, but I was wondering.

Needless to say, I'm even more enthusiastic about having a go at the whole challenge now, T4 or no T4. Bring it on!
