Re: Tumbleweed - The Rules and Discussion
I've just noticed that any claim for more than 4 hours, you will always get more points in bells. Here is a quick of whether it's better to claim weed or bells:
5 to 55 mins - Best to claim weed
1 hour to 1 hour 15 mins - Best to claim bells
1 hour 20 mins to 1 hour 55 mins - Best to claim weed
2 hours to 2 hours 30 mins - Best to claim bells
2 hours 35 mins to 2 hours 55 mins - Best to claim weed
3 hours to 3 hours 45 mins - Best to claim bells
3 hours 50 mins to 3 hours 55 mins - Best to claim weed
4 hours+ Best to claim bells
5 to 55 mins - Best to claim weed
1 hour to 1 hour 15 mins - Best to claim bells
1 hour 20 mins to 1 hour 55 mins - Best to claim weed
2 hours to 2 hours 30 mins - Best to claim bells
2 hours 35 mins to 2 hours 55 mins - Best to claim weed
3 hours to 3 hours 45 mins - Best to claim bells
3 hours 50 mins to 3 hours 55 mins - Best to claim weed
4 hours+ Best to claim bells

Mind you trying to work out how many weed and bells are available at 5:30am is really hard when you have just woken up!Sam wrote:And there goes the need to do any thinking...

Re: Tumbleweed - The Rules and Discussion
I don't think it would have taken a huge leap of mathematics to work the above out. I worked it out when I was writing the rules but declined to mention anything. Looks like someone else has cottoned on now though.

Re: Tumbleweed - The Rules and Discussion
It's one thing posting it on the web, but it's another to actually let the game thread go idle for that long so someone can actually take advantage of it. I think five bells is the biggest claim so far.Sam wrote:It's one thing working it out, it's another thing posting it on the web...!

Are you saying that Tumbleweed is as important as the GWR?Sam wrote:Speak for yourself...

This is the record for the highest number of points claimed in the Tumbleweed game on the tubechallenge.com forum.

Re: Tumbleweed - The Rules and Discussion
OK, so this week's contentious issues is this little exchange from Thursday the 18th of August:
mullardo - 85 weed at 05.37 pm
Root - XXV weed at 06.02 pm
jamesthegill - 35 weed at 06:22 pm
mullardo - 30 weed at 06:32 pm
mullardo - a load of crap at 06:34 pm
greatkingrat - 45 weed at 07:20 pm
So, Root kicks things off by claiming for weed using Roman numerals. At this point I had to determine if Roman numerals are a valid form of claiming. The rules state that the number portion of claimed points must be a positive integer. Roman numerals are NOT integers so far as I can determine. After all, a quick search of the internet brings up several websites where one can convert Roman numerals into integers, implying that they are separate constructs. To my mind, Roman numerals represent an integer, but are not the same thing as an integer.
Therefore, Root's claim is judged invalid. I could have considered it a spoiler, but as I have judged it to be his intention to claim 25 points, it is an invalid claim and he loses 25 points.
jamesthegill then takes Root's claim to be valid, and claims from the time of Root's post. Nothing wrong there - he could have claimed from mullardo's last claim at 05.37 pm.
mullardo takes Root's claim to be valid, and makes a claim from the time of his post, thus taking jamesthegill's post to be invalid. He then makes this post immediately afterwards:
"This post it not a spoiler, it is instead a clarification.
Either Root's post is a spoiler thus Jamesthegill's is invalid or Root's is a legal claim under the "You may write the number claimed in either numerical or word format." rule on page 7 thus Jamesthegill's is invalid"
So, for mullardo's (and everyone else's I suppose) benefit:
mullardo's claim at 06.32 pm is invalid, as jamesthegill's claim was valid,
mullardo's "non-spoiler" IS a spoiler, as no claim for points was made,
Root's post is an invalid claim,
jamesthegill's subsequent claim is valid.
greatkingrat then claims 45 weed, correctly identifying mullardo's "non-spoiler" as a spoiler. He could have claimed from jamesthegill's claim at 06.22 pm.
I don't really want to get into a huge argument about Roman numerals and integers - it's 25 points people. But nice try Root!

Re: Tumbleweed - The Rules and Discussion
My hope was that "numerical format" would include Roman numerals. But I don't really mind the outcome, I was just interested to see how it would be interpreted
