Possible trip to Berlin next year to challenge U-Bahn
I know I have mentioned this before, but I thought it was worth mentioning now as I shall explain below.
I was contemplating if it would be feasible to sometime next year (I think April, May or September will be the best months) to organise an open trip for members on this forum (i.e. any member on the forum can come along if they want to) to Berlin (arranging travel from London and accommodation) to challenge the U-Bahn over there (competing with each other either in teams or individually to get the best time on the FNC and perhaps other challenges). You can see a map at http://www.urbanrail.net/eu/bln/berlin.htm.
There are previous posts on this forum about the Berlin network at http://www.tubeforum.co.uk/forum/index. ... =viewtopic, http://www.tubeforum.co.uk/forum/viewto ... f=9&t=1645 and http://www.tubeforum.co.uk/forum/index. ... =viewtopic. (It has been mentioned in these threads that just the U-Bahn, not the S-Bahn is used for challenging, although the S-Bahn can be used as other public transport. The map I linked to above includes both U-Bahn and S-Bahn).
We have an unofficial record for the FNC of the U-Bahn of 07:34:50. And I was thinking for this trip, we should see do some other challenges such as an R15 (maybe think of one or two more). So I say we should make a holiday out of it and go for a week (also look around the city generally). And Berlin also has trams to play with.
In one of the other threads, Soup Dragon seems keen to have a European challenge among forum members, so I was hoping (to Soup Dragon) I could twist your arm and ask you to be the main organiser. You did say previously you hoped you could do something next year, and as next year is getting close, I thought it would be a good time to revisit the idea. There was an attempt to drum up some interest at http://www.tubeforum.co.uk/forum/index. ... pic#p35455 but it died (it was a little buried away though, so I hoped that by indicating a possible trip to Berlin in the thread title, it might generate more interest). uefacup81 also knows Berlin well, at one point moving to Berlin and has done the U-Bahn FNC, so having him on board would be good (he knows the ropes and, I presume, at least some of the language) although he may beat us all because he is familiar with the system and we're not .
Anyway, would anybody be interested in this (please post if you are, no definite commitments yet, but just to get an idea of how much interest there might be). Incidentally I wonder if anyone knows if this sort of thing (i.e. organising holidays abroad) has been done on internet forums elsewhere? (Does anyone know of anything like this?). And if this is successful, it could perhaps turn into an annual event. There are a number of European cities with metro and/or tram systems so we could go to different cities.

I'd certainly be up for this - I never pass up a chance to visit Berlin!

April would be great for me.

Doesn't seem to really be much interest (only 3 other different posters to this thread).

On a forum of our size I don't think that 3 is too bad as there is still time to go.

Its a no for me also because I can't get time off work and don't want to miss university.
Just because I don't reply doesn't mean I'm not interested hehe
But definately, good luck to you when/if you go

I'm interested, but as with GU, I've got no money and no passport...
Attempts: 2 (17h38m, 238 stations) (unknown, 200 stations); Completions: 0; GWR: 0; PBs: 0.

Maybe something smaller would be better, like a weekend in Paris on the Eurostar?
